ROLE OVERVIEW

We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented Lead Curriculum Developer and Writer with expertise in grades 3-5 humanities, instructional practices and content design.

Managers of Curriculum Development are responsible for developing and revising high-quality, integrated K-5 curriculum that aligns to research-based instructional standards and learning outcomes. The ideal candidate will collaborate with external partners, subject matter experts, instructional designers, and various stakeholders to create engaging and effective curriculum content for diverse learning environments.   

WHAT YOU’LL DO: 

In this role you will:

  • Design and write high-quality grades 3-5 literacy curriculum that aligns with identified standards and supports foundational reading and writing development
  • Lead the development of instructional design planning tools and documents (e.g., scope and sequences, knowledge maps, pacing guides, etc.)
  • Lead the development of instructional materials, including lesson plans, teacher guides, student materials, assessments
  • Ensure vertical and horizontal alignment across grade levels and content areas to support skill progression and concept reinforcement
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, editors, and instructional designers to produce engaging, culturally responsive, and grade-appropriate content
  • Incorporate the Science of Reading (SOR) and Science of Learning research and evidence-based practices into curriculum design
  • Adapt content for diverse learning needs, including students with learning differences and English learners
  • Conduct ongoing revisions based on feedback from internal reviews and client input
  • Stay up to date with changes to state-specific standards and policy updates related to literacy education
  • Lead and facilitate planning meetings with other contributing curriculum designers and writers to ensure cohesion and alignment across the project
  • Manage project timelines and deliverables, ensuring materials are completed accurately and on time
  • Review and provide feedback on curriculum drafts developed by other contributing designers and writers to ensure consistency, quality, and alignment
  • Support the development of professional learning materials that help teachers understand and implement the curriculum effectively
  • Ability to partner with internal and external stakeholder groups to gather input and ensure the 3-5 curriculum meets their requirements
  • Facilitate workshops and training sessions to gather feedback and implement revisions
  • Develop processes to evaluate and ensure the quality, consistency, and effectiveness of curriculum materials
  • Conduct regular reviews of and incorporate feedback for continuous improvement
  • Apply knowledge and understanding of current trends in education, curriculum design, and instructional technology
  • Integrate innovative strategies and tools to enhance learner engagement and outcomes
  • Maintain detailed records of curriculum development processes, timelines, and outcomes
  • Prepare reports and presentations for leadership and stakeholders

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, literacy, curriculum and instruction, or a related field (master’s degree preferred)
  • Seven (7) or more years of experience in early literacy education, with a strong emphasis on grades 3-5
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in curriculum development and instructional design, particularly in upper elementary literacy instruction
  • Two (2) or more years of management experience
  • Demonstrated track record of curriculum development, review and alignment to state and national standards
  • Strong understanding of the Science of Reading, foundational literacy skills, and best practices in early literacy instruction
  • Proven ability to write engaging, grade-level appropriate instructional materials for teachers and students
  • Experience designing curriculum for diverse learners, including multilingual learners and students with varied abilities
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, alignment, and educational equity
  • Comfort working with project management tools and navigating deadlines across multiple projects
