As a clinician-led, minority-owned online behavioral health company, our mission is simple: provide accessible, high-quality mental health care for the people who need it the most—our kids.

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Psychiatrist to join our growing team. This role offers the opportunity to provide direct psychiatric care via telehealth, focusing on under-served youth and families. Our psychiatrists work closely with a multidisciplinary team of therapists, psychologists, and other mental health professionals to deliver comprehensive, evidence-based care to children, adolescents, and young adults.

Guiding Principle We believe psychiatric care is not only a treatment—but a public good. Our responsibility is not only to the individual client, but to the population as a whole. Every test, appointment, and prescription should reflect this dual commitment to care and stewardship.

Why Backpack Healthcare?
  • Culture of Growth – We invest in your career development, offering mentorship and opportunities for advancement.
  • Impactful Work – Help under-served children, teens, and families access essential mental health services.
  • Inclusive & Supportive Team – Join a diverse, driven, and mission-focused team dedicated to clinician and client success.
  • Flexible & Remote – Enjoy a work-life balance with telehealth flexibility, allowing you to practice from anywhere within our service states.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic assessments, and medication management for children, adolescents, and young adults.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on evidence-based practices.
  • Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications, ensuring appropriate treatment and adherence.
  • Collaborate with therapists, psychologists, and other healthcare providers to deliver integrated mental health care.
  • Provide psycho-education to patients and families regarding mental health conditions and treatment options.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in team meetings, case consultations, and professional development activities.
Training & Professional Development
  • Access to weekly case consultation and peer collaboration opportunities.
  • Ongoing continuing education support in areas such as child and adolescent psychiatry, telehealth best practices, and psychopharmacology.
  • Opportunity to work with a diverse population in a dynamic, innovative mental health setting.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • MD or DO with board certification (or board eligibility) in Psychiatry or Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Active, unrestricted medical license in at least one of our service states (Virginia, Maryland, Georgia, Michigan, or DC) with willingness to obtain additional state licenses.
  • Experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults in a clinical setting.
  • Strong skills in psychotropic medication management, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Comfort and proficiency in telehealth platforms and electronic health records (EHRs).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Board certification in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Experience working with Medicaid and under-served populations.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care, culturally competent treatment, and evidence-based psychiatric interventions.

Backpack Healthcare is dedicated to making mental health care more accessible, effective, and compassionate. If you are passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and families, we invite you to join our team.
