Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Intermittent Cost Estimator to join our Operations team. The Intermittent Cost Estimator will work for PMA Consultants as needed, and your schedule will consist of specific hours as assigned and approved by local leadership, in accordance with client needs.

In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing and estimating the costs associated with various operational projects and initiatives. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and finance teams to develop accurate cost projections, assess project feasibility, and ensure that projects remain within budget. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of industry standards, and the ability to communicate complex cost information effectively.


Responsibilities include:
  • Utilizes cost estimating software tools with proficiency.
  • Understands fundamentals of cost estimating theory and basic and advanced characteristics of a sound cost estimate.
  • With limited assistance re: subject scope, develops summary and detailed level cost estimates, produces a well-organized and complete model that accurately calculates project costs.
  • Reviews contract documents to gather cost obligations and specifications and applies their requirements to cost deliverables.
  • Understands and enforces the discipline around concepts of an original estimate, regular updates, and cost revisions.
  • Effectively gathers and incorporates progress data into a cost update.
  • Skillfully engages reluctant stakeholders to gather needed input.
  • With limited guidance, supports the development of what-if analyses.
  • Studies cost data to identify trends, notes anomalies for further review.
  • Skillfully identifies likely causes of cost variances, identifies strategies to obfuscate the actual drivers of project cost performance.
  • Applies target estimates, identifies variances, and pinpoints progress, scope, or financial changes precipitating the change.
  • Summarizes major themes; with limited collaboration, develops insightful reports that effectively communicate the cost estimate status to cost analysts and non-cost analysts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Position Qualifications
  • Knowledge of electrical construction estimating typically acquired by a bachelorof science degree in a related field and 5+ years’ electrical construction estimating experience or 10+ years of electrical construction field experience.
  • Demonstrated competency with MS Excel required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Familiarity with NECA required.

  • Additional Requirements
     
    Physical: Standing or sitting for long periods; must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times and spend extended hours in front of a computer screen.
     
    Cognitive: Problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills; computer and software skills; and ability to read and interpret text online or in printed form.
