The Opportunity

We are seeking a senior-level Android Developer to join our mobile team! Our 5-star mobile apps are a core part of the Canopy ecosystem and have over a half-million users. But there are still many new features to build! We champion autonomy, collaboration, innovation, accountability, and above all, our customers.

You will work closely with other developers, as well as a product designer and a product manager, to deliver exceptional products that revolutionize the professional tax industry. This is a fully remote position, with eligibility to work in the Philippines.

What You'll Do:

  • You’ll be building new features using the latest industry technologies, our app has been built entirely with Kotlin, no Java!
  • From start to finish, you'll work together with your cross-functional team to design and build products that revolutionize the professional tax industry.
  • You will have opportunities to research new technologies, shape the Android codebase, learn, grow, mentor, and be mentored.
  • Work collectively on the Android codebase, maintaining and optimizing it to ensure scalability, performance, and high-quality user experiences.
  • Collaborate with API teams to influence and guide API design, ensuring seamless integration and performance within the mobile app.
  • Work closely with the developers to ensure feature parity and a cohesive mobile strategy across platforms.
  • Manage the app submission process, including uploading builds to internal testing and releasing apps to the Google Play Store via the Play Console.
  • Adapt to changing business needs by pivoting between feature development, bug fixes, and other critical tasks as required.
  • Continuously research and incorporate new technologies and best practices to keep the app at the forefront of the industry.

What You’ll Need:

We look for candidates with mid-senior level experience who can continue to grow our mobile app in the right direction and are willing to own the Android codebase. We value experience in developing real-world applications that scale with users as well as features. Beyond technical proficiency, we love candidates who are collaborators, self-motivated, passionate and driven to build excellent products.

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or closely related field.
  • 5+ years of professional Android development experience.
  • Proven track record with at least one released app available on the GooglePlay Store.
  • Can smoothly handle UI/worker threads for a slick user experience
  • Experience with web requests via HTTP/REST and JSON responses
  • Experience using concurrency and multi-threading.
  • Experience with ROOM databaseExperience building apps using MVVM architecture.
  • Experience with declarative UI (Jetpack Compose)
  • Skilled in pivoting between different tasks based on business needs, whether it's building new features or addressing urgent bug fixes.
  • Continuous curiosity to discover, evaluate, and implement new technologies that maximize development efficiency.
  • Must be fluent in English, both verbal and written.
  • Reliable high-speed internet connection with consistent performance to support uninterrupted remote work.
  • Ability to work a schedule that overlaps with 9 AM to 1 PM Mountain Time (MT) Monday through Friday. This corresponds with 11:00 PM to 3:00 AM Philippine Time (PHT). Please ensure your available aligns with this time frame before applying.

Bonus Skills:

  • Experience with coroutines.
