In the U.S., every 1 in 3 children are at risk of child abuse, 1 in 4 women at risk of domestic violence, and 1 in 6 elders are at risk of elder abuse. Why? Because of the massive inefficiencies in our government agencies (schools, hospitals, police, protective services, non-profits, etc). There is no standard communication platform, uniform metric of risk assessment, or digital procedure for data strorage. We built Vimes to fix this: crisis intervention software to close gaps in government welfare.
We started out in child abuse, setting out to end all preventable child deaths by making sure at-risk children get the support they need. In just 12 months, we created a new national standard for assessing child risk, published an academically validated whitepaper, and created a cross-platform webapp/app system. Through automated form reporting, secure messaging and information exchange, and live analytics and database tracking, we bring response time for child welfare from on average 40 days to 12 hours. We now have six active pilots serving 320K citizens, and recently closed a $2.2M pre-seed. In the long run, Vimes envisions becoming the universal system of record for all vulnerable populations, becoming a central hub for data and communications among all agencies.
We have a pipeline of 30+ cities, 15 states, and may cross $10M revenue barrier in the next 12 months. As we scale 10x and we’re looking for talented technical engineers to join us.
We’re looking to bring on founding engineers, for an in-person position in New York City or Bay Area (open to hybrid or remote).
As a small team, we work in a highly collaborative environment and you'll have the opportunity to participate in varying stages of the technical process, reporting to the CTO/CEO. We value:
Impact: Build the foundation and shape engineering practices.
Excellence: Develop and practice your craft in a fast-paced, high-potential environment.
Delivery: Build results-oriented mindsets, rapidly iterate on code with the team
Highly skilled in React/React Native, iOS/Android app development
Experience working with AWS-related services
Have a startup-y background or love bringing products from concept to reality: the 0 → 1 phase.
Plus for extensive experience in security engineering + compliance (SOC2, HIPAA, CJIS, StateRamp etc.)
Plus for experience at govtech startup
Experience writing production code on shipped full-stack apps
Experience working with communication platforms
Experience with building no-SQL and SQL database schemas
Ability to take a feature from spec to completion (UI, data/backend, testing/QA, future reworks/iterations)
Attention to detail in product development
Ability to learn new technologies quickly
App. You’ll be working with the team to build out our mobile and web app, laying the foundations for a large-scale government and social impact product.
Features. We’ve mastered our first product and system: child abuse data communication. As we expand, you will be rapidly building and testing new features like new communication methods, integrated database access, etc.; as well as new systems like domestic violence and gun violence frameworks.
Security. We have spent a lot of time building a secure system. From new security frameworks / approvals like stateRAMP / fedRAMP to enhanced integrations to new government agencies, you may be building custom security solutions to keep our data secure.
Writing easily-maintained code and influencing the stack. As we build out our tech stack, you get to make important choices and lay the foundations for scaling our codebase.
Managing. You will be placed in a unique position to have capable Stanford SWE interns at your disposal to streamline your efficiency and productivity. Working with the CTO, you will have the ability to build leadership and managerial skills working with our interns.
Building UI components. You will work closely with our designers to translate Figma mocks and our design system. You may collaborate on design and frontend engineering for user-facing features powered by backend code.
Solving interesting technical problems. Bring your full creativity to solve any technical challenges along the way.
You will be joining a small-team, high-velocity startup and thus will be compensated with a competitive salary on a monthly basis. Some terms:
Base cash comp $70K - $120K + offers equity
Performance bonus
Relocation compensation (if moving to the Bay Area / New York)
A $1K monthly stipend for meals
Health insurance + 401K match
In any case, we hope you’ll join us because you find a fast-paced production velocity exciting and fulfilling, and you want to help us prove what’s possible.
