Overview
Reporting to the Legal Department, the Senior Counsel, Europe will assist with legal matters including healthcare compliance and regulatory matters and the negotiation of clinical and commercial contracts with a wide variety of partners, including academic, government, and industrial organizations, as well as provide other general legal support to the company.
Candidate must live in the UK, Switzerland or the Netherlands.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Provide sound and practical legal advice on healthcare compliance and regulatory matters in oncology, including support for compliance issues related to sales, marketing, and medical affairs activities, government programs, federal healthcare program reporting, medical education programs, and advertising and promotion of biologic products, including legal support for training, internal policy development, medical review committee, and promotional review committee functions.
- Advise key business partners on complex commercial contract issues and assist with support for clinical and other business contract issues, negotiations, rights, and obligations.
- Draft and negotiate a variety of other common legal agreements, such as sponsored research agreements, consulting agreements, and quality agreements, and draft customized agreements and terms when needed.
- Quickly prioritize and respond to corporate legal issues, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and work flexibly on a diverse set of matters.
- Provide legal support for interactions with contract research and manufacturing companies, transactional support, litigation support, and licensing and due diligence support as needed.
- Assist with other legal department objectives.
- Manage and coordinate outside counsel.

- Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Travel
- Occasional travel (up to approximately 10% of time) may be required.
Required Education, Skills, and Knowledge
- A Juris Doctorate or legal degree from a law school accredited in the UK, Europe, or US is required.
- Must be licensed to practice law in at least one Country in the US.
- 8+ years of experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology commercial compliance support and contract negotiation in a business, law firm, government, or institutional setting.
- Must have experience with regulations and regulatory guidance specific to advertising and promotion of biologic products, and knowledge of laws, regulations, industry guidance and best practices regarding compliant sales, marketing, medical affairs activities, and pharmaceutical manufacturer activities.
- A familiarity with general contracting matters, including risk allocation and intellectual property terms, is required.
- Requires strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills as well as excellent judgment in the handling of legal matters.
- Must possess creative problem-solving, strong negotiation and risk assessment skills, and a dedication to quality and the highest professional standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products is required.
- Excellent team skills as well as the ability to work independently is required
Preferred Education, Skills, and Knowledge
- Additional experience in privacy, intellectual property, employment, and litigation in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology environment is preferred.
