Position Title:Associate Underwriting Consultant – Innovation
Reports To:Director, Individual Underwriting Strategy and Planning

Term: Permanent Full-Time
Work Arrangements: You will work from your home office 100% of the time. You may be required to be in-person at our office in Waterloo, ON or another assigned location within the Waterloo Region, on an as needed basis. Sales related roles may be required to travel based on the assignment.

In this role, you will be part of our Underwriting Innovation Team where you will be responsible for the risk management of our various underwriting tools and application forms. You have a strong commitment to improving the insurance-buying experience with the right risk solutions. You play a key role in supporting the growth of our business, our clients, and the success of our underwriting team.

What you will be doing:
Audit and monitor the performance of underwriting tools (rules engine, predictive analytics) to ensure decisions are risk appropriate and within an acceptable risk threshold.
Provide subject matter expertise to improve underwriting application questions, rules engines, and predictive analytics using data, competitive analysis and behavioural science principles.
Drive the prioritization and execution of key enhancements to the systems supporting our underwriting team, working collaboratively with our new business and delivery teams.
Assist with various cross-functional projects, bringing underwriting risk lens
Ensure positive change management for our clients and internal teams
Build strong relationships with our technology, new business, product, pricing and analytics teams.
Research and analysis as required, producing written summary or presentation of findings and recommendations to senior management.
Explore and make recommendations for new internal and external innovation partnerships.
Comply with legislative requirements, consumer regulation and reinsurance treaties as they apply to privacy, disclosure and risk classification

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
7+ years of demonstrated professional experience as a Life and Critical Illness Underwriter, ideally with experience supporting underwriting tools, application questions and underwriting projects
FLMI / FALU / CPU designation(s) or currently working towards them
Commitment to continuous learning and participation in education enhancement to remain current with medical knowledge and industry underwriting trends
Bilingual in English, French, Cantonese, Mandarin is an asset
