Job description

Position Summary

The Project Engineer / Design Engineer is a full-time role responsible for managing all aspects related to technical design, compliance, drawings including BIM, and programme delivery—from point of order to final handover—of fire and smoke curtain projects. The role ensures timely or early delivery and customer satisfaction, working closely with site installation engineers and internal and external stakeholders. You will serve as the first point of contact for our customers and will coordinate daily project correspondence, purchasing, logistics, internal reporting, and ensure quality control.

This role is ideal for an organised, pro-active project management professional with strong CAD and BIM proficiency and mechanical and electrical acumen. You must be adept at managing multiple concurrent projects, proactively solving problems, and working within the construction industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage technical, design, compliance, and delivery timelines of fire and smoke curtain projects from order to handover.
  • Lead coordination, planning, and execution of 20–40 live external contracts simultaneously (average project value: £35k; duration: 4–6 months).
  • Ensure installation engineers have all necessary technical resources and support for successful project execution.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, suppliers, and site engineers.
  • Handle all project correspondence and internal reporting, ensuring proactive communication.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams for purchasing, logistics, and quality control.
  • Manage surveys for manufacture in coordination with installation engineers.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues to avoid project delays or escalations.
  • Control project costs within budget and ensure any overrun is addressed through the Commercial Department.
  • Aim to deliver an NPS score of 80%+ from all project stakeholders (e.g., BCOs, architects, fire engineers, construction teams).

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven experience in project management within the construction, manufacturing, or engineering industry.
  • Proficient in CAD (including Inventor) and Revit, with strong BIM knowledge.
  • Mechanically and electrically inclined, with hands-on experience.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to manage subcontractors, tradespeople, engineers, and installers.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and highly proactive—“leaves nothing to chance.”
  • Excellent organisation, time management, and task management skills.
  • Skilled in problem-solving, decision-making, and implementing process improvements.
  • Comfortable working with CRM, project management software, and digital record-keeping systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills—both written and verbal.
  • Focused on quality and customer satisfaction, ensuring reliable, first-time-right installations.
