  • This position pays between $122,900 - $153,625 based on experience.


The Director of Clinical Documentation exercises a high level of clinical proficiency to lead all administrative and clinical functions that contribute to the capture, management, and collection of patient service revenue within Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI). The Director leads strategic initiatives aimed at the optimization and improvement of organizational strategies, processes, and enabling technologies. The position will require approximately 25% travel.

Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides training on Clinical Documentation Improvement concepts to hospital designated staff on the requirements for ICD-10 reimbursement implications, audit skills, and conduct nursing and ancillary staff training. Responsibility for project management, client management, and KPI reporting.
  • Provides oversight and direction for clinical documentation programs. Tasks include auditing, training, quality and productivity, policies and procedures, and compliance with the respected organization, the government, and any regulatory body guidelines and requirements
  • Maintains knowledge of all federal, state, coding and documentation guidelines Evaluate and analyze statistical data including the ability to maintain databases, spreadsheets and related software and produce analytical reporting; weekly and monthly reports to monitor benchmark goals, key performance indicators, and identifying opportunities for improvement; provides feedback, develops and implements action plans when appropriate.
  • Assists in the development of organizational CDI specific goals/objectives and performance improvement processes.
  • Assists in the creation and improvement of policies and stand operating procedures for clinical documentation improvement programs.
  • Builds and maintains productive inter/intra departmental and vendor work relationships to optimize operations
  • Develops and monitors strategic operating goals, objectives and budget; and reports operational performance, justification and/or corrective action
  • Monitors any ongoing educational needs based on regulatory changes and/or areas identified by quality audits for improvement; communicates to coding leadership regarding any areas that may warrant additional review of coding processes or education Serves as a resource to Physicians / Case Managers and other key professional staff in matters relating to published DRG information
  • Works with medical records, finance and physician groups to develop systems to facilitate complete documentation for data reporting purposes
  • May be required to perform other job-related duties as requested.


Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred; Associates degree in Nursing required
  • 2 + years of leadership experience
  • 3+ years of CDI experience
  • 5+ years acute care nursing experience
  • Ability to travel appx 25%
  • Ability to effectively influence change management
  • Critical thinking and action planning abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and relationship management capabilities including physician relations
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to organize and present information clearly and concisely
  • Strong technical skills including database and spreadsheet analysis


Minimum License Requirement:

  • Current RN license


Certifications:

  • Preferred certifications include, Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS), Certified Documentation Improvement Professional (CDIP), Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR)
