Job description

Location: Remote

Deliverable deadline: The report has to be finalised by 15 September 2025

We are looking for a Consultant/Consultancy to carry out a study on the population dynamics of the Red-backed Shrike in different European subpopulations and the habitat, land use and conservation actions influencing the pattern

KEY OBJECTIVES

The Consultant/Consultancy is required to address the following key objectives through a review of available scientific evidence:

  1. Habitat Improvements in Breeding Areas
  2. Population Dynamics
  3. Migration Patterns
  4. Stopover and Wintering Conditions
  5. Human-Induced Mortality
  6. Monitoring and Data
  7. Policy Implications
  8. Synergies

EXPECTED DELIVERABLES:

  • Comprehensive literature review – Synthesised overview of existing scientific literature.
  • Data assessment – Evaluation of available data sources on the Red-backed Shrike.
  • Gap analysis – Detailed identification of knowledge and monitoring gaps.
  • Policy and research recommendations – Actionable suggestions for policy and research.
  • Final report – Consolidated summary of findings, analyses, and recommendations.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Proven experience in ornithological research, particularly migratory bird conservation.
  • Expertise in population dynamics, habitat analysis, and migration ecology.
  • Familiarity with conservation policies and data collection methodologies (e.g., satellite tagging, ringing, population surveys).
  • Strong analytical and report-writing skills, with a track record of producing technical reports for conservation or research organisations.
  • Ability to speak and write English fluently.
