Job description

Be a founding member of Supermetrics’ Design System Team!

We’re seeking a Lead Front-end Engineer with design system experience to join our newly established Design System Team.

This position could be based fully remote from the UK.

At Supermetrics, we're developing Metri, a comprehensive design system designed to empower teams across our organization. Metri aims to provide a cohesive, scalable, and delightful user experience for our marketing intelligence platform. By serving as a unified foundation, Metri will streamline the design and development processes, maintain brand consistency, and significantly enhance the overall user experience of our products.

In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with an experienced Design System Designer to establish and build the future of our design system team from the ground up. Together, you will own the design system and its evolution.

Front-end engineering at Supermetrics is integral to shaping our products and facilitating the progress of our business. You'll collaborate with both product designers and engineering teams, significantly contributing to product development and the overall user experience.

If you're motivated to build robust, scalable, and maintainable design systems that ensure consistency and seamless user experiences, we'd like to hear from you.

In this role, you will…

  • Develop and maintain a high-quality, robust design system – Build and maintain reusable UI components using React and Chakra UI, ensuring accessibility, usability, performance, and brand consistency.
  • Work in close collaboration with a dedicated Design System Designer. You will jointly own the creation and evolution of the design system.
  • Create frameworks and governance models that enable designers and developers to collaborate seamlessly and work efficiently with Metri.
  • Manage the technical implementation, adoption, and evolution – Provide technical guidance, support contributions, and facilitate internal upgrades and migrations to ensure widespread and effective use across the company.
  • Ensure high-quality implementation – Work with engineering teams and their product designers to bridge the gap between design and code, ensuring that Metri’s components and patterns are implemented correctly and consistently.

Your day-to-day work and responsibilities include…

  • Building and refining the Design System, its components, and the supporting technical ecosystem.
  • Managing the effective adoption and implementation of Metri across teams.
  • Collaborating with the appointed Product Designer to address technical challenges and ensure smooth integration.
  • Creating and maintaining documentation for developers on how to use the design system, and facilitating contributions.
  • Ensuring Metri remains innovative through the adoption of industry best practices and ongoing enhancements.

This position is for you if you have…

  • Demonstrable skill in building web app user interfaces and components to a very high standard.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining design systems or component libraries.
  • Advanced proficiency in React and Typescript.
  • A skilled understanding of accessibility best practices (semantic HTML, ARIA).
  • Experience with Storybook for component documentation and development.
  • Solid understanding of modern front-end development practices, including automated testing and release management.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills – You know how to inspire, advocate, and align teams around a shared vision, effectively bringing designers, developers, and stakeholders on board.
  • Ability to see both the system and its details, ensuring consistency across components and streamlining implementation of common UI patterns.
  • A keen understanding of design principles and proficiency in Figma or comparable design software. Ability to contribute or prototype on the design side.

Benefits we offer:

  • Competitive compensation package, including equity
  • Excellent work equipment and home office allowance for those working in our fully remote locations
  • Health care benefits and leisure time insurance
  • Annual learning budget
  • Sports and wellbeing allowance
