Job description

*Fully Remote work- Must be able to work US East Coast (GMT-5) timezone*

Hi! We’re LinkGraph, an SEO software company (and full-service digital agency) focused on engineering products and services that help websites improve their performance on Google. We are a rapidly growing organization with clients from Fortune 500 companies to leading Silicon Valley tech startups.

We are seeking an experienced and technically exceptional Head of Web Development to lead our web development efforts across multiple brands and client projects. This role requires a hands-on leader who can set high standards, solve complex technical problems, and drive continuous improvement in performance, reliability, and team output. You will act as the primary custodian of several high-profile WordPress websites and ensure they evolve with best-in-class technical practices. We’re not just looking for a manager, we’re looking for a WordPress rockstar and player-coach who leads by example, mentors the team, and consistently pushes the bar higher.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and evaluate the web development team to deliver high-quality work, maintain coding standards, and implement best practices.
  • Serve as the technical owner and quality gatekeeper for all our web properties, including:
    • SearchAtlas.com, Linkgraph.com, Linklaboratory.com, SignalGenesys.com, and Mightyscribes.com.
  • Build and maintain highly performant, scalable, and secure WordPress sites with modern architecture.
  • Ensure seamless, zero-downtime deployment pipelines using CI/CD and proper staging workflows.
  • Identify and fix website performance issues, implement Core Web Vitals best practices, and achieve top PageSpeed Insights (PSI) scores.
  • Establish strong QA processes to eliminate issues like broken links, typos, missing meta tags, and other quality flaws before publishing.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across product, design, and marketing to align technical work with business goals and growth targets.
  • Contribute to and help oversee development of WordPress plugins, templates, and components as needed.
  • Keep the team informed and trained on new technologies, trends, and tooling, especially around performance and modern WordPress strategies (e.g., headless WordPress).
  • Evaluate and continuously raise the technical bar of the development team’s work.
  • Own and manage the development budget efficiently, ensuring alignment with company profit margins and delivery expectations.
Requirements

Technical Expertise

  • Expert-level experience with WordPress: core, themes, templates, plugins, and custom development.
  • Deep knowledge of performance optimization strategies and SEO fundamentals.
  • Familiar with or experienced in headless WordPress implementations (Next.js, Gatsby, etc.).
  • Proven track record of delivering high PSI/Core Web Vitals scores across desktop and mobile.
  • Strong grasp of web standards, accessibility, and responsive design.
  • Advanced proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks (React, Vue, Angular).
  • Experience with version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and modern deployment practices.

Leadership & Quality

  • Demonstrated experience managing and mentoring web development teams.
  • Clear history of setting and enforcing coding best practices and QA processes.
  • High attention to detail, quality-focused mindset, and proactive ownership of website health.
  • Able to operate as both a leader and individual contributor (i.e., a player-coach).
  • Comfortable reviewing code, guiding architecture, and setting the bar for technical excellence.

Nice to have skills

  • Experience with plugin development.
  • Exposure to Shopify, Webflow, Figma (for collaboration with design teams).
  • Not required to be client-facing but should be able to communicate effectively with internal stakeholders.

Benefits

  • 11 Days PTO + Christmas Day + New Year's Day paid off

Salary

  • $5,000-$6,000 USD per month depending on region/location

Here's a look into our core values:

1. Collaborative and Highly Engaged

Work is where we invest a big chunk of our lives. And hey, we're all about making that time awesome! Picture this: we're not just coworkers; we're like a squad that's always got each other's backs. We're all about cheering each other on, sharing what we know, and picking each other up when things get messy. Plus, we're big on being real with each other, so there's no room for office drama or gossip. We're all about that good vibes-only vibe!

2. Pursues Excellence

We're not just about doing our jobs; we're on a mission to master our craft. With a growth mindset and a desire to learn and grow, we're relentless in our pursuit of excellence. Mediocrity? Nah, not our style. We're all about raising the bar and becoming the absolute best in our field. Smashing goals? It's our fuel. And we do it all together, thriving on shared success.

3. I can figure it out/Google it attitude

Hey, nobody's got all the answers, right? That's why our team rocks - because they're all about that thirst for knowledge and the know-how to quench it. Thanks to the vast wonders of the internet, there's practically nothing we can't figure out. Stumped on something? No sweat, just dive into the Google pool!

We're a crew of go-getters, always ready to tackle challenges head-on. While we thrive on collaboration, we're also no strangers to taking the reins and finding solutions independently.

4. Innovative

We're all about agility, evolution, and innovation. Flexibility is our middle name—we're constantly refining, experimenting, and pushing boundaries. New ideas? Bring 'em on! Creativity is our secret sauce, and thinking outside the box is just how we roll. Forget about the status quo; we're all about embracing change. We're not attached to an old way of doing things - We're attached to winning.

5. Student Mentality

We dedicate ourselves to uplifting each other and pushing Search Atlas onwards and upwards (to the moon!). Mistakes and rough days happen to everyone, but we approach them with understanding and trust in each other's good intentions. Our team remains grounded and committed, persistently striving to improve. Mistakes are opportunities for growth; we embrace them, learn from them, and continually evolve as a result.
