Royal Caribbean Group’s Global Gov and Comm Relations Team has an exciting career opportunity for a full time Director, Government Relations, which will sit under Yatsushiro Kumamon Cruise Port (YKCP), a subsidiary of the RCG, reporting to the AVP, Government Relations Asia.


Position Summary:

As the Director of Government Relations, you will be instrumental in developing and strengthening strategic relationships with key government officials and stakeholders to drive the organization's business growth in North Asia, which includes Japan and South Korea. You will serve as the primary liaison between the organization and various government entities, including national and prefecture governments, DIET members, trade associations, and political bodies, addressing laws, regulations, and issues that impact business operations in North Asia.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Strategic Government Relations: Formulate and implement a comprehensive government relations strategy for North Asia, ensuring alignment with the organization's goals and objectives.

• Geopolitical Analysis: Monitor and analyze geopolitical developments in the region, providing timely updates to senior management on their potential impact on operations and investments.

• Policy Advocacy: Stay informed about government policies and regulations related to the cruise industry, offering strategic feedback and recommendations to management. Develop and implement advocacy strategies to achieve desired outcomes.

• Relationship Building: Cultivate and maintain positive, professional relationships with government officials and regulatory bodies in North Asia, enhancing the organization's standing and fostering goodwill.

• Industry Representation: Establish working relationships with trade associations and industry bodies, effectively articulating and communicating the company's positions and goals.

• Crisis Management: Support the business in managing operational or crisis situations involving government implications.

• Event Coordination: Arrange and coordinate government relations-related events, including bilateral meetings, ship visits, and community engagement activities.

• Budget Management: Plan and manage the government relations budget and expenditures, including overseeing external support agencies and leveraging charitable contributions to foster positive political outcomes.

• Other Duties: Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisors or management.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in political science, international relations, public policy, or a related field. A master's degree is a plus.

• 12+ years of relevant experience, including industry, government relations, public relations, or similar fields, with a focus in North Asia, particularly Japan.

• Progressive job history demonstrating attainment of higher levels of responsibility in business management, government relations, or public relations at the managerial level or above.

• Strong network of contacts within North Asia, especially Japan, with proven ability to navigate complex government processes.

• High level knowledge of North Asia's political, regulatory, and legal systems, particularly in Japan.

• Fluency in Japanese and English languages.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Proactive and resourceful self-starter.

• Excellent communication, negotiation, and advocacy skills.

• Strategic thinking with the ability to develop and execute effective government relations strategies.

• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, capable of gaining senior leadership buy-in.

• Expertise in building consensus for support on public issues both within and outside the company.

• High level of listening skills and problem-solving abilities.

• Attention to detail and goal-driven attitude, with tenacity to achieve satisfactory resolutions over extended periods.

• Commitment to ethical behavior and transparency in interactions with public policymakers.

• Ability to provide thorough and timely responses to information requests.

• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
