Headquartered in Vancouver, BC, they are looking for a seasoned engineering leader to help shape the next stage of their growth.


The Role

The Senior Director of Engineering is a high-impact leadership role responsible for managing and expanding the engineering team while ensuring the successful execution of strategic projects. This position will be instrumental in collaborating with key stakeholders across the organization to define and drive the engineering roadmap. The role offers flexibility in work arrangements, including remote and hybrid options, and reports directly to the CEO.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of major engineering projects and initiatives, ensuring they align with company objectives.
  • Oversee the engineering team and manage large-scale projects that have company-wide implications.
  • Work closely with business leaders to define technical requirements and translate them into actionable engineering solutions.
  • Guide and influence the technical design and architecture of systems, ensuring they meet both short- and long-term business goals.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop engineering talent while fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Own the recruitment strategy for engineering talent, building and expanding the team as necessary.
  • Facilitate the triage, escalation, and resolution of any technical issues affecting users or internal systems.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve processes, tools, and technologies to enhance overall engineering performance.
  • Partner with product owners to prioritize and manage projects, ensuring timely and successful delivery.
  • Manage the engineering budget, making data-driven decisions on resource allocation to maximize ROI.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors to select and integrate tools that enhance development workflows.
  • Shape the strategic direction of the company’s engineering efforts to ensure alignment with broader business objectives.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • At least 7 years of experience managing engineering teams in a SaaS environment, utilizing Agile methodologies.
  • Over 12 years of professional software development experience, ideally in fast-paced startup or growth environments.
  • Strong leadership and influence skills with experience in scaling engineering teams.
  • Expertise in software design principles and best practices, with a focus on continuous process improvement.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and a proven track record of delivering innovative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Proficiency in both relational and non-relational database technologies.
  • Experience in web application development, including modern frameworks and technologies.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • An understanding of business operations and market dynamics, with the ability to align engineering strategies to business goals.
