Job description

We’re looking for a Manager to help drive automation, transparency, and efficiency within the company’s insurance finance team, with a focus on reinsurance accounting and reporting processes.


You’ll be primarily responsible for global reinsurance reporting, from review of day-to-day accounting transactions to building infrastructure and system solutions to help us scale. You will also be part of the bridge between the Finance team and the Underwriting team, working on the reinsurance placement and structure.


This role will also help fill gaps as we continue to build out our processes and controls in accounting and financial reporting for our insurance and non-insurance entities on a (U.S.) Statutory, U.S. GAAP, and IFRS accounting basis.


In this role you’ll

  • Review monthly assumed and ceded reinsurance calculations and journal entries
  • Review monthly contingent commission calculations and journal entries
  • Ensure ceded billing and bordereaux preparation and reporting are processed and settled accurately and timely
  • Manage the assumed and ceded analytics
  • Manage collateral needs and review credit ratings
  • Act as a subject matter expert on reinsurance policies and procedures
  • Establish and own reinsurance subledger system logic and features, including reinsurance debtors and creditors ledger
  • Oversee preparation of reinsurance disclosures for 10-Q/K as well as other US and EU regulatory reporting
  • Prepare reinsurance forecast
  • Act as the main finance team contact person with intermediaries and reinsurers
  • Prepare calculation of cession for CAT’s from exposure data provided by our reinsurance intermediary
  • Support reinsurance system solution implementation
  • Advise on reinsurance placement and structure
  • Work closely with auditors and other stakeholders to ensure compliance and address any issues or concerns
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors, as necessary, with regards to both the external and internal audits and SOX testing
  • Maintain and develop documentation for processes, operating controls and SOX controls

What you’ll need

  • 6+ years experience with P&C reinsurance accounting (preferably for a global company)
  • 2+ years of people management experience
  • B.S. in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA preferred
  • Experience in identifying and implementing system solutions
  • Workday ERP system experience preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Practical knowledge of US GAAP (knowledge of IFRS and Statutory Requirements is a bonus)
  • Adept at developing strong partnerships with key stakeholders both internally and externally
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work remotely

Lemonade's US base salary range for this full-time position is $135,000-$150,000 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
