Description

The Actuarial Reserving Support Team within Global Risk Solutions (GRS) Actuarial is seeking a Business Analyst who thrives in an environment where independent thinking, creative problem-solving, and adaptability are keys. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys delving into complex data, applying innovative solutions, and continuously seeking ways to improve and optimize processes. You will be part of a team that values intellectual autonomy, critical thinking, and a continuous drive for knowledge.

In this position, you will leverage your creative mindset and strong technical expertise, particularly in Python and SQL, to improve processes, automate tasks, and provide better insights and analysis of GRS reserves. You will be encouraged to develop solutions independently, exploring new methodologies and technologies with minimal supervision. While Python and SQL are essential to this role, we also value candidates who bring additional technical skills and the ability to quickly learn and apply new tools and technologies to solve complex problems.

Responsibilities

  • Use advanced technical skills (e.g., Python, SQL, other relevant tools) to automate, maintain, and enhance complex data processes that support GRS reserving. You will be responsible for handling large datasets used in the reserving process and the related analytics.
  • Partner with reserving actuaries to understand their analytical needs, identify business challenges, and offer custom technical solutions that drive value. Ensure an exceptional stakeholder experience through well-organized design, testing plans, and effective communication.
  • Provide clear and concise communication of complex technical work to various stakeholders, including reserving actuaries, senior management, and other business units.
  • Work on special projects involving Robotic Process Automation (RPA) tools, ResQ reserving software, and various internal data marts. Collaborate with diverse stakeholders across the global GRS organization, ensuring solutions align with business needs.
  • Meet regularly with your supervisor to review work, discuss project status, address concerns, and seek guidance as needed to align with team goals.
  • Develop tools, processes, and documentation that improve transparency, increase efficiencies, and enable stakeholders to seamlessly interact with reserving data. Stakeholders include senior management, reserving and pricing teams (North America, LSM, Surety), GRS Actuarial Planning Support, and occasionally the Global Retail Markets (GRM) business unit.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Python and SQL is critical. These skills are at the core of the role, but we also value additional technical expertise in areas such as data visualization, database management, or automation tools.
  • A natural inclination to think critically and independently to solve problems and optimize processes, using logic and analysis.
  • You must be highly self-motivated, seeking out opportunities for growth and applying new knowledge to your work. Minimal supervision is needed for the right candidate, as you will be responsible for your own development.
  • Precision and accuracy are key, as your work will impact the overall data management and reserving processes.
  • Strong ability to analyze large datasets, identify patterns, and provide actionable insights and recommendations. You’ll enjoy exploring data deeply to uncover valuable insights.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with 3+ years of relevant experience. We’re open to candidates who demonstrate the right mindset and potential for growth, even if they have less experience.
