Job description

Political Data Intern

WeVote has multiple open positions for unpaid interns who want to add work experience to their resume(s), and develop their skills related to Political Science, Civic Duty, Elections, and/or not-for-profit operations. This is an opportunity to work remotely with an active team. This internship is a great opportunity to get involved with supporting American Democracy, and ideal for people passionate about politics and excited to use technology to educate voters and increase voter turnout.

Hours: 20+ hours per week, during work hours (M-F, 8-5 pm), 3-month commitment

WeVote is a nonpartisan, get-out-the-vote nonprofit startup, and a celebrated Fast Forward nonprofit technology grantee. WeVote is a movement of excellent, passionate volunteers (starting with the founders) who build open-source mobile technologies that touch and mobilize millions of voters on Election Day. We believe that many voters are busy, distracted, and impatient. What You’ll Do.

  • Conduct internet research to confirm and update politician data (Content) for 3-4 US states, including tracking when politicians declare their candidacies
  • Conduct internet research to find voter guides and endorsements from nonprofit groups, in a rapidly changing political environment
  • Capture candidate and ballot measure endorsements in our social networking application, using our cutting-edge tools
  • Spot-check our data in all 50 states, and research data problems reported by voters
  • Support our volunteer marketing team with the latest news from the political data world

Requirements

  • Attention to detail and passion for clean data
  • This is for a minimum 3-month commitment, 20+ hours per week, during work hours (M-F, 8-5 pm)
  • A willingness to work with and support other volunteers
  • Must be in agreement with WeVote’s Core Values
