Human Resources Generalist (Payroll & Benefits Administration) 
Washington, D.C. Metro Area (Remote, Full-time) 

Salary Range: $70,000 - $85,000 per year base salary, when annualized

We are currently seeking an exceptionally talented Human Resources Generalist to join our headquarters team and support the functions of the Human Resource (HR) department. While this position is remote, preference is given to candidates located in the Washington, D.C. Metro area. 

Position Description: 
As the HR Generalist, the ideal candidate will support the HR lifecycle duties that include hiring and new personnel, administering pay, benefits, and leave, and enforcing company policies and practices. This role’s primary responsibilities will focus on benefits administration and payroll. 

Key Roles & Responsibilities: 

Benefits Administration: 

The HR Generalist provides excellent customer service and administers the company’s benefits program in conjunction with the HR Manager and Pivot Paths leadership team while directing and planning the day-to-day operations of group benefits programs (group health, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability, worker's compensation, life insurance, accidental, critical illness, and hospitalization plans, flexible spending and health savings plans, retirement plans, etc.). The administrator continually, and monitors benefits administration. Specific duties include: 

  • Ensure the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the appropriate systems.  

  • Assist with the company’s new-hire orientations and open enrollment process.  

  • Assist employees with benefits claim issues and plan changes.  

  • Enroll employees with broker/ insurance carriers and guide employees through life status changes.  

  • Respond to benefits inquiries related to plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries.  

  • Process leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and FMLA.  

  • Respond to 401(k) inquiries from managers and employees relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts. Manages the annual catch-up contribution enrollment, when necessary.  

  • Review all benefits invoices as it pertains to benefits. 

  •  investigates new benefits programs and improves existing programs. 

Payroll: 

In this capacity the HR Generalist partners with the accounting team to process semi-monthly multi-state payroll timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.  Specific duties include: 

  • Calculate wages, bonuses, expenses and deductions.  

  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.  

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.  

  • Coordinate with HR and Accounting teams regarding payroll changes (new hires, terminations, salary adjustments).  

  • Facilitate audits by providing records and documentation to auditors as required.  

  • Identify and recommend updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures  

  • Ad Hoc reporting and analysis as required  

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, human resources, or related field  

  • Three to five years of related experience required. Multiple years working with a small business government contractor.  

  • Proficient with Human Resources Information Systems including but not limited to Paycor, Paychex, ADP, and Workday.  

  • Technology savvy with demonstrated ability to learn systems and processes quickly  

  • Strong attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills  

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint  

  • Able to operate effectively in both a team environment and working independently  

  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities across all levels of organization
