Job description

Online Learning Advisor

Online Education Services (OES) are an education provider that offer educational services for students and professionals including university programs. This position will be working within OES in association with Swinburne Online.

Swinburne Online delivers world-class learning to students through online degrees that have been specifically designed to meet the educational needs of those who want to receive a qualification from an internationally ranked university in a flexible manner.

Here at Swinburne Online, the student is at the forefront of everything we do, and this role is the opportunity to support and guide our students through their learning journey. Our Online Learning Advisors (OLA's) are the subject matter experts who facilitate the student's learning, with a focus on helping them achieve their goals.

Who are we looking for?

Our Online Learning Advisors are motivated by student success and are passionate about the online platform. You will be the facilitator for planned academic content and the first point of contact and support for our online students.

The OLA role is remote so you'll have flexibility in where and when you work! The expected workload commitment is 4 hours per week, per group and there shouldn't be more than 48 hours between logging in. You should be proactive and dependable and have a remote working environment that enables you to provide high-level support to the students.

The responsibilities of an OLA include:

Delivery of planned academic content, learning activities and assessment tasks (including moderation, assessment and feedback). The unit is planned already so it's more about facilitating, guiding and advising students during the teaching period.

Marking, processing and submitting assessment results according to established guidelines within requested time frames.

Must-have’s:

  • TEQSA AQF level 8 qualifications or above
  • A law degree that fulfils the academic requirements for admission to legal practice in your State/Territory in Australia
  • 3-5 years of industry experience
  • High level written communication skill
  • Strong organisation & planning skills
  • Confidence and resourcefulness in learning new technologies
  • High levels of empathy for the challenges experienced by online students
  • A passion for helping students succeed both academically and personally
  • Evidence of Academic Engagement Activities and Professional Engagement Activities over last 5 years (e.g. Participation in professional events (including conferences), publications (i.e. peer reviewed journal articles, conference papers, textbooks), substantial involvement with a professional body, etc.)

AND/OR

  •  Experience in teaching at a tertiary level
  • A master's in law
  • PhD in law or related field or enrolled in PhD and expect completion in 2 years*

• *Applicants who do not hold a PhD but hold a Master of Laws or related qualification and can demonstrate significant industry experience will be considered. You will need to be able to demonstrate current legal experience in Australia and a current practicing certificate is desirable.

Upcoming dates:

Training: prior to the commencement of your first teaching period, you will undertake a paid 3-week online training course commencing on the 26th May 2025, which will equip you with all the skills and support you’ll need to be highly successful in the role.

Teaching period: If you successfully pass the training, the next teaching period commences in July

Now is your chance to join a highly engaged workforce and make a positive impact on the experience of our students. If you're interested, please 'apply now' with a CV and cover letter explaining why you want to work as an OLA with Swinburne Online.
