$20.82 - $25.75 per hour (negotiable).
- Type of Employment:
Part-Time = 16 - 32 hours a week, based on workload.
- Period of Performance:
Base year plus two (2) option years.
- Employee Paid Group Benefits Offered: Health/Dental/Vision.
- Paid Time Off per Year:
Up to 80 hours per year, occurring on day one.
- Sick Leave per Year:
Up to 56 hours per year, occurring on day one.
- Paid Federal Holidays:
Eleven (11) Paid Federal Holidays.
- Travel: Travel may be required under this contract.
- Relationship: Employee of our company and/or 1099 Independent Contractor.
Working Hours
Work will be completed remotely and generally scheduled from 7:15 AM - 3:45 PM, Eastern Time, Monday through Friday. However, there may be times when employees must work outside of duty hours and/or on weekends to support specific tasks. Although the schedule may have to be flexible, it will not exceed 40 hours per week. Temporary alternate work locations may be assigned.
Summary of Duties
The Optician will support the UNICOR Optics Factory by assisting with training Adults in Custody (AIC) in the operation, troubleshooting, and minor repair of optical fabrication equipment used to manufacture various types of prescription safety eyewear.
Mandatory Qualifications
- A current State License of Opticianry or American Board of Opticianry Certification.
- A working knowledge of the Ophthalmic Management Association (OMA) standard.
- Knowledge of using OMA equipment in the manufacturing process, including both surfacing and finishing equipment used in an industrial production environment.
- A basic knowledge of Innovations/Labzilla software or equivalent.
- Knowledge of optical and ophthalmic concepts as they apply to all phases of ophthalmic manufacturing, including ophthalmic mechanics, dispensing procedures, maintenance, and repair of ophthalmological equipment.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Responsible for the management and administration of the work required and bear sole responsibility for complying with all requirements in the performance of this work and
free from supervision or control by any Government employee with respect to the manner or method of performance of the services specified:
- Inspect, accept, or reject the work, comply with such general direction of the Contracting Officer or the authorized representative of the Contracting Officer as is necessary to ensure accomplishment of the contract objectives.
- Provide technical assistance/clarification to the Quality Assurance Specialist, Customer Service Supervisor, and customers placing eyewear orders.
- Assess and provide recommendations regarding equipment upgrades, maintenance, and improving the Optics Factory's production capabilities and offerings.
- Provide technical aspects of optical production, basic and advanced manufacturing techniques and principles, and the proper and safe use of tools and equipment to approximately 30 AIC workers.
- Assist in monitoring the quality and workmanship of the items to ensure they meet all industry standards.
- Provide technical guidance to the Factory Manager and Quality Assurance Specialist to achieve this goal.
- Defective materials will be inspected to determine the point of origin for repair, replacement, and analysis to prevent the problem from reoccurring. As a result, he/she must be able to perform each operation to make adjustments and/or corrections.
- Conduct assessments of potential new products and contact potential supply vendors.
- He/she will have access to maintenance manuals and records. The selected vendor may be required to interact with the AIC work detail, third-party vendors, labs, and, on occasion, customers to assist in these duties.
- He/she will be required to assist in the manufacturing process of a high-quality product safely and efficiently while maintaining all specifications agreed to in the contract. The product must be of equal quality to those produced in the private sector.
- He/she will assist in monitoring material flow to ensure production compliance with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) requirements for eyewear and safety eyewear.
