Overview:
The Sr. Systems Engineer will be responsible for the design and implementation of solutions for Motorola’s ASTRO 25 and adjacent technologies for State and Local government public safety agencies. We are looking for Engineers who are energized by delivering solutions that truly make a difference.
Responsibilities:
This involves:
Performing the Engineer of Record role for mid- to large-sized projects.
Remote work, primarily from a home office, with no local supervision. Take initiative, lead customer-facing meetings, collaborate with contractors and vendors to drive results, and change priorities with little notice.
Working on multiple projects while balancing priorities.
High level of customer and consultant interaction involving customer design reviews, customer witnessed staging and acceptance testing events, coverage acceptance testing, live system upgrades, and troubleshooting efforts.
Exhibiting professionalism through written and oral communications, being able to summarize complex technical concepts clearly, and present to both technical and non-technical team members.
A high level of commitment and accountability to project and customer demands, as well as ownership of technical solutions, problem solving and project timelines.
Design and implementation of the radio network including infrastructure, subscribers, mobile backhaul and WAN and CEN networks.
Radio coverage modeling and testing
Frequency analysis and interference mitigation
Radio system licensing (FCC/Industry Canada/NTIA)
Preparation of system fleet map, encryption and radio programming templates
System buildout, configuration and acceptance testing in both lab staging and field environments
Authoring and compiling system documentation (drawings, test plans, etc.)
Live system cutovers and upgrades
Recognizing the need to engage colleagues and/or specialists for assistance with difficult or new tasks
Continuous learning via company training programs/materials and independent personal development
Some amount of hands-on troubleshooting and configuration of equipment, periodically.
Additional Skills/Knowledge:
Radio Frequency Engineering principles
Land / Mobile Radio Engineering principles and terminology
RFDS principles to include antenna and cable selection, transmit combiners, receive multi-couplers, and lightning protection systems.
P25 Land Mobile Radio terminology and two-way subscriber radio provisioning methods.
Experience with Motorola ASTRO 25 architecture and subscriber radios is a plus.
Familiarity with servers and related systems to include: VMware ESXI, Linux, and Microsoft operating systems.
Construction of remote communication sites to include: site selection, grounding, compound development, tower and shelter requirements.
Familiarity with communications and low voltage wiring methods and practices
Fortinet firewalls, Nokia 7705 series routers, Juniper SRX/MX (Junos) series routers, HP/Aruba switches
Remote access using SSH, SCP, SFTP, RDP, VPNs
Remote system work and troubleshooting, observing proper security access protocols.
Knowledge with point-to-point Microwave systems, Microwave RF & Network design, FCC licensing a plus
Software applications integration, Application Protocol Interfaces (API) concepts, computer operating systems, and the OSI model.
Networking protocols and devices including OSPF, ISIS, BGP, MPLS, SIP, RTP, SNMP, NAT, routers, switches, and stateful packet firewalls.
Knowledge of physical layer such as fiber, copper, and microwave.
Self-motivated, good written and oral communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills
Desired Certifications, Some or All:
GROL (General Radiotelephone Operator License), Amateur Radio Operator License, or equivalent experience
COMPTIA A+, Network +, Security +, Juniper JNCIA-Junos, Nokia NRS1, CCNA or similar a plus.
Target Base Salary Range: $98,100.00 - $196,200.00 USD
