Senior Software Engineer / Lead Engineer

About the Role:
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer or Lead Engineer to join Alteryx. This role will involve leading complex technical projects from inception to delivery, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring high-quality, scalable solutions are implemented. The ideal candidate has strong technical leadership capabilities, hands-on expertise in Go, React and Java, and a passion for solving complex problems in distributed systems and scalable platforms.
The role requires a balance of software development and infrastructure knowledge, with a focus on building platforms and tooling that enable both high-performance applications and efficient infrastructure management. You will be expected to deliver scalable, maintainable solutions while collaborating with Product, Archictecture, and Infrastructure teams.
Team Overview:
The team collaborates across Product, Infrastructure, Security, Compliance, and Operations to ensure high-quality solutions are delivered that meet business needs. The role will involve working on both ongoing initiatives and new projects aimed at improving the Alteryx platform's scalability, reliability, and developer experience.
The work spans:
● Secure Networking Solutions: Designing reliable connectivity layers for secure data transfer between external environments and Alteryx’s cloud platform.
● Compute & Resource Management: Enhancing systems that provide high-performance, scalable compute resources through automation and orchestration.
● Infrastructure Automation: Developing solutions for automated provisioning, monitoring, and deployment of resources in multi-cloud environments.
● Developer Enablement & Platform Services: Building tooling and APIs that support internal and external stakeholders in developing and deploying applications effectively.
● Scalable Systems Design: Architecting services that provide reliable and efficient solutions for both internal and external stakeholders.
The team’s work is critical to supporting various product lines, enterprise clients, and internal services. While certain initiatives may be high-priority at a given time, this role will involve working across a spectrum of evolving projects and requirements.
Responsibilities:
● Lead the design, development, and deployment of high-performance services and applications using Go, React and Java.
● Collaborate with Product Managers and Architects to define project milestones, outline technical architectures, and ensure alignment with business goals.
● Break down project milestones into actionable tasks, distribute work across the team, and track progress to ensure timely delivery.
● Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of engineers, including code reviews, architectural guidance, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
● Collaborate across geographically distributed teams to ensure seamless integration and project success.
● Design and implement solutions within multi-cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure).
● Ensure systems are built with scalability, resilience, and maintainability in mind.
● Drive best practices in software development, testing, and deployment.
● Document architectural decisions, design patterns, and processes to promote maintainability and knowledge transfer.
● Participate in a regular on-call rotation to maintain service reliability.
Required Qualifications:
● 7+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong focus on Go, React, and Java.
● Proven experience leading projects and teams throughout their entire lifecycle, from planning and design through implementation and delivery.
● Experience collaborating with Product Managers and Architects to define project milestones and design technical architectures.
● Ability to break down complex project milestones into manageable tasks and delegate effectively.
● Strong experience with distributed systems and cloud-native architectures.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Experience working with geographically distributed teams and collaborating effectively across different time zones.
● Multi-cloud experience (AWS, GCP, Azure), including architecture, deployment, and management.
● Experience designing and implementing distributed technology systems.
● Familiarity with infra/devops tools and practices: Helm, Docker, GitLab Workflows, CI/CD pipelines, etc.
● Hands-on experience working in or with compliance-heavy environments (e.g., financial organizations).
● Knowledge of networking concepts: VPCs, tunnels, networking protocols, etc.
Nice to Have:
● Tech Lead experience.
● Experience with GitLab for version control, CI/CD pipelines, and workflow automation.
● Familiarity with infrastructure as code (IaC) and container orchestration tools such as Kubernetes.
● Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting tools (e.g., ELK stack, DataDog).
● Security-minded approach to designing and implementing software systems.
● Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and experience leading Agile teams.

● Strong communication skills: Ability to articulate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
● Leadership & Mentorship: Enthusiastic about sharing knowledge and developing junior engineers.

Compensation
Alteryx is committed to fair, equitable, and transparent compensation. Final compensation will be determined by various factors such as your relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location.
The salary range for this role in California, Colorado, Washington, Texas, and Rhode Island is $160,000 - 184,400.
In addition, you may be eligible for other compensation, such as a bonus. Employees may also be eligible for a wide range of other benefits, including medical, retirement, financial, wellness, time off, employee discounts, and others.
