About this role

Carrier HVAC Regional Commercial and Residential business sector is looking for a Tooling Process Manager to lead and oversee the maintenance (predictive/preventative/repairs) and performance of Carrier owned tooling, fixtures and other special equipment use in the production of parts at our vendors’/suppliers’ facilities across our North American supply chain. The Tooling Process Manager will be responsible for the CAPEX budget, develop and implement strategies to ensure tooling reliability, maximize uptime, and investigate new product tooling to optimize supplier capabilities. The ideal candidate will bring a combination of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and supplier management experience to drive continuous improvement in Carrier-owned tooling equipment at vendor/supplier operations.

We are open to receive applications from candidates living in the Eastern or Central Time Zones in the USA, who will be able and willing to travel 50% of the time in the USA and Mexico with occasional other international travel.  This is a remote opportunity for an individual contributor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) schedules for Carrier-owned tooling at suppliers
  • Coordinate with management, customers, production, and tooling suppliers to schedule/perform outsourced tooling maintenance and repairs
  • Upgrade and maintain supplier tooling asset list and records/history in the database
  • Collect data related to supplier tooling maintenance and repairs, analyze, summarize and present recommendations to management team
  • Accountable for the Supplier Tooling Budget, set and maintain supplier tooling budget according to forecasted sales
  • Maintain and maximize supplier tooling uptime to minimize impact on the customer
  • Create and maintain bailment agreements with vendors to ensure legal and IRS (Internal Revenue Service) compliance.
  • Review and request supplier tooling budgets when each facility makes the finance plan
  • Lead the supplier tooling development initiatives
  • Use Engineering Chance Notice (ECN) knowledge to quote, develop, and execute supplier tooling design, manufacture, and release with vendors according to Carrier PPAP quality and engineering standards
  • Work with finance to ensure all assets have their respective Asset ID for tracking
  • Act as the central point of contact for all Carrier tooling assets at vendors supporting plant operations in the US and Mexico
  • Drive supplier resiliency by mitigating operations line shutdown due to tooling outages at suppliers
  • Ensure tooling health is included in overall business planning, such as CAPEX for repairs and/or replacement, or new for New Product Introductions

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ degree
  • 5+ years of experience in tooling management (predictive/preventative/repairs/assessment/budgeting)
  • 2+ years of experience in supplier auditing or supplier quality engineering

  • Material management/planning/scheduling skills
  • Manufacturing processes, i.e., steel fab (soft tool and hard tool) and plastic (thermoformed, injection, compression, and extrusion)
