Job description

Job Description:

The Sr. Data Scientist will lead the development and deployment of generative AI (GenAI) models in the healthcare EMR/EHR domain. This role will focus on building state-of-the-art AI/ML solutions for a variety of use cases and integrating agentic frameworks and workflows. The incumbent will have expertise in working with models such as OpenAI's GPT, Gemini, Claude, and open-source frameworks like LLaMA, as well as a proven track record of deploying scalable AI systems in regulated and complex healthcare environments.

AI and GenAI Model Development:

  • Lead data science projects and deliver innovative technical solutions to solve problems and improve business outcomes.
  • Develop and fine-tune generative AI models for healthcare-specific tasks and use cases.
  • Leverage and adapt models such as OpenAI GPT, Gemini, Claude, and open-source tools like LLaMA to meet healthcare-specific needs.
  • Design, develop, test, validate, and deploy Machine Learning/Statistical models to build new products.

Agentic Frameworks and Workflows:

  • Design and implement agentic AI systems to automate workflows and enhance user interactions within EMR/EHR platforms.
  • Integrate generative AI into agentic frameworks to create intelligent, autonomous solutions that improve efficiency in healthcare processes.

AI System Deployment at Scale:

  • Deploy AI solutions in complex healthcare environments, ensuring scalability, reliability, and seamless integration with EMR/EHR systems.
  • Align AI systems with interoperability standards such as HL7, FHIR, and healthcare data formats.

Unstructured Data Processing:

  • Process and analyze unstructured healthcare data, including clinical notes, audio transcriptions, and diagnostic imaging, to build models that address specific clinical needs.

Regulatory Compliance and Security:

  • Ensure all AI models and workflows comply with healthcare data privacy regulations, including HIPAA and similar standards.
  • Build secure AI systems that maintain the confidentiality and integrity of sensitive patient data.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, clinicians, and other stakeholders to translate clinical needs into AI-driven solutions.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders to drive alignment and innovation.

Research and Innovation:

  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in generative AI and apply them to improve existing healthcare processes.
  • Experiment with open-source and commercial GenAI models to explore their applicability in healthcare use cases.

Perform other duties that support the overall objective of the position.

Education Required:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Preferred: Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Informatics, Electrical/Mechanical/Biomedical Engineering, or related fields.
  • Or, any combination of education and experience which would provide the required qualifications for the position.

Experience Required:
  • Extensive experience in developing and deploying AI/ML models, with a strong focus on generative AI techniques (e.g., GPT, LLaMA, Claude).
  • Experience with GenAI platforms like OpenAI, Gemini, Claude, and open-source tools such as LLaMA.
  • Preferred:
  • 8+ years of experience in AI/ML development with a focus on healthcare applications.
  • Demonstrated success in deploying scalable AI solutions in regulated environments.
  • Experience working with multiple GenAI models, including open-source and proprietary systems, and adapting them for industry-specific use cases.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of: Healthcare Domain Knowledge: Deep understanding of EMR/EHR systems, healthcare workflows, and interoperability standards such as HL7 and FHIR. Familiarity with clinical terminologies and taxonomies like ICD, CPT, and SNOMED. Proficiency in Python and AI/ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Hugging Face. Knowledge of MLOps practices, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and deployment of AI systems in production environments. Strong understanding of healthcare privacy regulations, including HIPAA, and experience building systems that ensure compliance.
  • Skill in: Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to: Proven ability to work in cross-functional teams.
