Job description

In 2012, Lambda started with a crew of AI engineers publishing research at top machine-learning conferences. We began as an AI company built by AI engineers. That hasn't changed. Today, we're on a mission to be the world's top AI computing platform. We equip engineers with the tools to deploy AI that is fast, secure, affordable, and built to scale. Whether they need powerhouse GPU hardware on-site or the flexibility of cloud-based solutions, we've got the horsepower to make it happen. Lambda’s AI Cloud has been adopted by the world’s leading companies and research institutions including Anyscale, Rakuten, The AI Institute, and multiple enterprises with over a trillion dollars of market capitalization. Our goal is to make computation as effortless and ubiquitous as electricity.

If you'd like to build the world's best deep learning cloud, join us.

*Note: This position requires presence in our San Francisco office location 4 days per week; Lambda’s designated work from home day is currently Tuesday.

Lambda is looking for candidates to join our Platform Engineering team. As a Software Engineer on the Fleet Foundations team, you will contribute to building and maintaining production frameworks that manage GPU host lifecycle and machine management at scale. Your work will enable efficient and reliable operations for Lambda’s infrastructure, ensuring that our systems are scalable, automated, and resilient.

We understand that infrastructure engineering is most successful when it is deeply integrated with the needs of the business, and we work closely with teams across Lambda to develop solutions that align with both operational and company objectives.

As a team responsible for core infrastructure services, you will work across a wide range of technologies, including configuration management, machine lifecycle automation, and system provisioning. While we don’t expect you to be an expert in every area, we do expect you to learn, collaborate, and contribute effectively. If you find our work interesting and your experience aligns with even some of these responsibilities, we encourage you to apply.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and Maintain Production Systems: Design, implement, and improve software that powers GPU fleet lifecycle management and machine configuration at scale.

  • Automate Infrastructure: Build and enhance automation frameworks for machine provisioning, configuration management, and deployment.

  • Manage Configuration at Scale: Develop and optimize configuration management systems to ensure consistency, reliability, and efficiency in managing large-scale infrastructure.

  • Enhance Machine Lifecycle Processes: Improve and refine workflows for bare metal provisioning, firmware updates, and system health monitoring.

  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with infrastructure, security, and product engineering teams to develop scalable and maintainable solutions.

You

  • Have 2+ years of experience working with Golang or Python in production environments.

  • Have 2+ years of experience with configuration management tools and practices.

  • Are familiar with Linux operating systems and comfortable working in a Linux-based environment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with Golang (preferred) in infrastructure or backend development.

  • Hands-on experience with configuration management in the context of bare metal lifecycle management.

  • Experience building Linux distributions and managing OS-level customization.

  • Familiarity with Ansible for system configuration and automation.

  • Exposure to Kubernetes and container orchestration concepts.

If you don’t meet all of these requirements but believe you may be a good fit, please still apply and provide a cover letter that helps us understand your experience and readiness for this role.
