Get to Know the Opportunity:
The Senior Tax Manager is a pivotal role within Voya’s Corporate Tax Department, a dynamic and fast-paced team dedicated to optimizing tax efficiency and providing strategic advice to senior leadership across the company. Reporting to the AVP of Tax, the Senior Tax Manager will oversee Voya’s federal, state, and local tax audits and play a crucial role in federal and state tax planning. Success in this role requires effective management of competing high priority projects.
The Contributions You'll Make:
Lead and coordinate tax audits, including federal and state income, premium, and sales tax.
Analyze and manage tax due diligence for mergers and acquisitions, advising tax management on critical issues and documenting tax positions in technical memoranda.
Serve as the lead on planning projects and other tax initiatives to achieve operational flexibility and administrative efficiency, while providing cash tax effective tax rate savings.
Manage and complete competing projects through hands-on production and leveraging internal and external resources. Effective prioritization of projects is essential for success.
Support the quarterly and year-end tax reporting process for income taxes in accordance with ASC 740 and statutory income taxes under SSAP 101.
Ensure compliance with internal controls over income tax reporting processes, including M&A.
Monitor and anticipate changes in state and federal tax rules, regulations, and interpretations.
Provide tax research, administration, compliance support, and advice to business units.
Coordinate and review externally prepared income and premium tax returns.
Collaborate with various internal and external teams/stakeholders, such as Tax Compliance, Tax Reporting, Accounting, Treasury, FP&A, outside advisors, and external auditors.
Develop and train tax and accounting personnel.
Manage documentation of processes, procedures, and technical issues.
Lead and participate in special projects and initiatives as needed.
Minimum Knowledge & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
CPA or Masters of Tax or JD.
8-10 years of experience in public accounting and/or corporate tax department.
Strong understanding of federal and state tax provisions.
Ability and motivation to understand the company, competitors, and relevant tax provisions.
Hands-on approach with strong attention to detail.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to partner with and educate business leaders on critical tax/business issues. Skilled at building relationships across the enterprise through collaboration, teamwork, consensus building, and interpersonal effectiveness.
Preferred Knowledge & Experience:
Understanding of insurance tax and international tax is preferred.

The below annual base salary range reflects the expected hiring range(s) for this position in the location(s) listed. In addition to base salary, Voya offers incentive opportunities (i.e., annual cash incentives, sales incentives, and/or long-term incentives) based on the role to reward the achievement of annual performance objectives. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Voya Financial is willing to pay at the time of this posting.
Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted salary range based upon the candidate’s geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
