Job description

The Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC) represents leaders in Canada's chemistry and plastics sectors, including innovators, solution providers, and sustainability pioneers. We advocate for public policies that support innovation, investment, jobs, and environmental stewardship at federal and provincial levels.

This is a key leadership role bringing together public affairs and government relations to shape the association’s interactions with government departments, policymakers, and stakeholders.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement government relations strategies aligned with the association’s priorities.

  • Cultivate relationships and engage with government officials, policymakers, and regulators to advocate for favourable policies.

  • Monitor and analyze public opinion, legislative, policy and regulatory developments that may impact the industry’s operations or public image.

  • Align government relations efforts with corporate communications to shape public perception. Support with comprehensive communications and digital strategy.  

  • Working closely with the policy team, respond to government inquiries and participate in public consultations on key issues.

  • Develop messaging strategies government to articulate the organization's position on policy matters.

  • Work closely with Regional Directors on position and message alignment and government engagement.

  • Organize Ottawa-based government meetings, events, receptions and Hill Days and prepare leadership for meetings with policymakers by providing briefing materials and talking points.

  • Work in close collaboration with the CIAC consultants and oversee work of Communications Manager.

  • Build, develop and nurture meaningful relationships with members, partners and stakeholders and staff.
