JOB SUMMARY

The SVP of Portfolio Management is responsible for Orion’s collection activities and performance, areas which comprise a meaningful revenue stream for the company.  This position leads, manages, and develops all aspects of the serviced portfolio’s early-stage delinquencies (1-60 days), late-stage delinquencies (61-90 days), workouts, asset recoveries, and legal proceedings & staff, including attorney and vendor management and billings.   The SVP of Portfolio Management is responsible for setting and achieving goals for this area of Orion, in accordance with all collection laws, regulations, and company policies.  The SVP of Portfolio Management represents Orion publicly and serves as the key representative of Orion’s commercial collections services to financial institutions, portfolio investors, vendors, clients, and prospects. This position is accountable for developing and achieving short and long-term commercial collections growth objectives.    
 
As a member of Orion’s Executive Leadership Team, the individual holding this position will report to the CEO and serve Orion as a collaborative and effective leader, internally and externally. This Orion leader will ensure service commitments are met (or exceeded) and company and regulatory policies are adhered to, while providing overall leadership and guidance to the delinquency teams, collections teams, and recovery teams; demonstrating and instilling superior negotiation skills, good judgment and sound decision making.  As a steward of the company’s reputation and regulatory standing, the SVP of Collections upholds and advances ethical practices throughout the organization.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • VP Delinquency Management, VP Advanced Collections, Legal Admins (paralegals), and others as may be required.
  • Responsible for hiring, training, retaining, and (if and when necessary) disciplinary action for staff.
  • Perform annual performance reviews for all direct reports.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for Orion’s collections products, service, and staff; ensuring client satisfaction, employee engagement, market acceptance, profitability, growth, and compliance.
  • Engage with current clients to establish avenues for expanding our portfolio management services. Proactively identify prospects and business opportunities in collections that align with Orion objectives.
  • Partner with Business Development in identifying and securing new collections clients by expanding our client base and driving growth.
  • Negotiate contract terms with current and prospective clients when necessary to ensure requisite margins are maintained.
  • Guide and empower impactful marketing plans for portfolio management.  
  • Collaborate with technology team to continually enhance performance reporting for clients and to support Business Development.
  • Collaborate with technology team to continually enhance Orion’s (CMARS) software; including contributing to the development and implementation of the Star Portal for use by Orion Stars and clients.
  • Lead staff in utilizing effective collection efforts and negotiation techniques, while demonstrating good judgment and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Responsible to see that all phases of collection strategies are developed, effective, documented, and executed to maximize performance. This entails getting accounts paid in full, reaching cash settlement, and or structuring payment plans appropriate to the circumstances.
  • Ensure conformity with professional standards, applicable federal and state regulations, and internal policies and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to client contract procedures, service levels, and policies.
  • Ensure any collateral requiring repossession is prepared for sale and sold, maximizing recovery value in a timely matter.
  • Ensure litigation efforts and legal relationships are effectively and efficiently managed to keep legal expenses as low as reasonably possible while generating best in class recoveries. Proactively manage and handle payment of legal invoices.
  • Effectively communicate account status to clients by providing detailed delinquency narratives and hosting regular client meetings to discuss collections activity and explain any existing issues to ensure transparency and foster strong client relationships.  
  • Ensure corporate, obligor, and guarantor bankruptcies are effectively managed.
  • Ensure effective and thorough asset searches and skip tracing actions.
  • Responsible for managing relationships with attorneys, outside collection agencies, repossession companies, and private detectives, with a focus on effectiveness, cost and adherence to professional standards.
  • Efficiently document collection strategies, activities, and related expenses in the designated system of record to ensure accuracy and accessibility.
  • Represent Orion at industry events as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as reasonably assigned. 


TRAVEL

  • Moderate travel required. For example, travel for quarterly board meetings, client visits, and/or various industry conferences.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 10+ years of experience in effectively leading commercial or consumer collections and recoveries.
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or an equivalent level of experience.
  • Expertise in working at or with C-Level management and clients.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in working with attorneys and other service providers, with a strong understanding of legal and regulatory environments (i.e., FDCPA, OFAC, ECOA, SCRA, BSA/AML, GLBA & UDAAP).
  • History of outstanding performance and results.
  • Skill in the use of various software applications, including MS Word, Excel, lease and loan software, Credit Bureaus, and skip tracing tools.
  • Effective at multi-tasking, problem-solving, and working with performance pressure.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • MBA preferred.
  • Additional experience considered, such as Certified Leading and Finance Professional (CLFP) certification or Executive Leadership training.
