What You Will Do:

The Coding Inpatient, Outpatient, and Pro Fee Team Supervisor must be proficient in medical coding and have experience overseeing coding teams. The Supervisor will conduct training and initial QA reviews for their direct reports. Supervisors must be able to review clinical documentation and diagnostic results as needed to extract data and apply the appropriate ICD-10 diagnosis codes, CPT/PCS codes, and other relevant coding standards. These codes are used for billing, internal and external reporting, research, regulatory compliance, and other required purposes. Under the direction of the Coding Manager, Supervisors should be proficient in communicating with coding teams, client contacts, and providers regarding the coding of conditions and procedures. All coding must align with ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting, CMS/MAC rules, CPT rules established by the AMA, and any other official coding guidelines required for standard code sets. The Supervisor’s responsibilities may include overseeing teams that work on coding-related denials from payers and recommending appropriate actions to resolve claims based on payer guidelines. Additionally, Supervisors should be proficient in Excel to create reports as requested and must maintain professional communication with all levels of personnel, both internally and externally. Travel to client sites may be required at times. This is a full-time, 100% remote position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a working knowledge of ICD-10-CM, PCS and CPT coding principles, governmental regulations, official coding guidelines, and third-party requirements regarding documentation and billing

  • Demonstrate the ability to perform quality coding and answer questions on inpatient/outpatient surgery, clinic, emergency room, and ancillary services

  • Provide training and instruction for new coders, including facility specific coding/abstracting guidelines, encoder and EMR functionality

  • Responsible for following facility specific policies and procedures 

  • Provide daily support to coders as needed to answer questions relating to the facility

  • Review the coding and pending queues daily to ensure all charts are processed in a timely manner and notify administrative staff in the event the twenty-four hour turn around standard cannot be met

  • Facilitate daily work assignments to coders and work with the Operations Manager to resolve coder questions and issues 

  • Send a daily queue status report and communicates to the facility as necessary

  • Work directly with the IQC staff to ensure quality standards are being met for each facility

  • Coach team members to improve their performance with some input and direction from management. Escalates performance issues as appropriate.

What You Will Need:

  • Requires a University degree and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience (Relevant experience may be substituted for formal education)

  • 3 years of medical coding experience

  • Must maintain credential throughout employment

  • ​Strong working knowledge & experience with Federal & State Coding Regulations and Guidelines

  • Must be a US Citizen and willing to undergo a federal background check as part of the onboarding process

  • Must hold one of the following credentials: (RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC, COC)

  • Supervisor experience

What Would Be Nice to Have:

  • Experience working in any of the following systems:  EPIC, Cerner, Next Gen, Allscripts or any other EHR

  • Knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology and Medical Terminology

  • Experience with Coding clinics ICD-10-CM and PCS

  • Experience with Government and other Payer guidelines as they relate to compliant coding

The annual salary range for this position is $61,000.00-$101,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
