Job description

Design and execute epidemiological and real-world evidence studies for a fortune 200 company with some of the most iconic brands! Have a PhD in epidemiology, or a related field such as behavioral science, public health, and data science? Have experience in public health, population studies or analysis of large databases? If so, we want to speak with you!


We are currently looking for a Principal Scientist -Epidemiology/RWE in our Population Science department in Richmond, VA, or we are open to remote work arrangements.


Situated within Regulatory Affairs, the Population Science department’s role is to evaluate the impact of tobacco product use in the population to advance regulatory and harm reduction efforts.


What you’ll be doing:

  • Plan, design, and execute epidemiological and real-world evidence (RWE) studies on the health impact of smoke-free tobacco product use in support of harm reduction advocacy and regulatory submissions
  • Monitor, critically evaluate and synthesize epidemiological and RWE literature
  • Plan, design, and conduct secondary analyses of large public and internal datasets to generate epidemiological and consumer behavior insights
  • Integrate and interpret research findings to draft scientific narrative content for regulatory submissions and external engagement including conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications
  • Collaborate as member of cross-functional teams and engage with internal and external researchers, including research suppliers


What we want you to have:

  • PH.D. degree in epidemiology, or a related field such as behavioral science, public health, and data science
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in public health and population studies or analysis of large databases (e.g. government databases), experience in an FDA regulatory environment and/or public health a plus
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to design and conduct epidemiological and RWE studies
  • Strong analytical and statistical skills with the ability to collect, coordinate, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to break down and understand complex problems, define a solution, and implement it using advanced quantitative methods.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively share findings with others
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate as member of cross functional teams


The starting salary is based on but not limited to experience, knowledge, and qualifications in determining compensation decisions. The Salary Range for this position is: $116,200.00 - $168,400.00.
