The Manager, Solutions Architects, directly manages the Technical Solutions team, comprised of nine Solutions Architects (SA) geographically dispersed across North America. As a working Manager, this role performs the duties of a people leader responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Technical Solutions Team, while also contributing to the design of complex solutions that meet the needs of Ross customers.


This hands-on, technical Management role demands a combination of well-honed pre-sales engineering experience, communication skills and problem-solving ability. The Manager, Technical Solutions, will be an effective people leader and ensure that the SA team is well trained and capable of supporting sales opportunities across the entire portfolio of Ross Solutions. This role will provide advanced expertise, including technical and commercial advice on complex, strategic projects, while also contributing to ongoing improvements within the Technical Solutions department in collaboration with the Director, Technical Solutions.

What the job is all about:


Team Leadership

  • Oversee the success of the Technical Solutions Team to ensure a best-in-class technical pre-sales experience. This includes assignment of projects and delegation of activities across team members, chairing regular team meetings, and task scheduling to ensure the timely delivery of solutions designed to meet customer needs and sales commitments.
  • Responsible for the overall hiring, motivation, and management of the Solutions Architects, including recruitment, onboarding, and the ongoing evaluation of all team members.
  • Providing the required training, coaching and development to the team, while also formulating performance goals and planning career paths to promote retention of key talent within the team.
  • Proactively evaluating the team’s capabilities and driving improvement in quality and performance of the team, developing systems and processes where necessary.
  • Establish quality standards by developing and maintaining key performance metrics and indicators of success for the Solution Architects.


Technical Expertise

  • Develop complete solutions designs, including complex technical drawings, and provide training to internal stakeholders and customers on the interpretation and application of these technical solutions.
  • Create technical drawings to address specified requirements, while also developing generalized variations for use by other groups at Ross. Part of this process involves evaluating technical deficiencies and proposing improvements to these solutions that maximize value for Ross Video.
  • Delegates and reviews solutions design work of the Technical Solutions team, prioritizing opportunities based on each Solution Architect’s bandwidth and product line expertise.
  • Participates and contributes to sales opportunities – including virtual and in-person exploration meetings – driven by the Regional Sales Managers to align solutions designed to meet our customers’ business requirements.
  • Proactively educates and provides professional development to the broader sales team, as well as Ross business partners to enhance their product knowledge, technical acumen, and technical sales skills.
  • Acts as a “Technical Evangelist” to help build trust and inspiration with Ross’ North American business partners and customers and position the Company as the top choice solutions provider.
  • Provides valuable and actionable customer feedback and market intelligence to Product Management teams on product & application requirements.
  • Engage in customer facing product demonstrations, demos, training and workflow guidance to customers and business partners at their sites or at tradeshows.
  • Travel to customer sites to conduct site surveys in preparation for bid responses and to evaluate potential sales opportunities.
  • Support the Sales Team’s efforts at major trade shows (e.g. NAB), and other industry events.


Who you are:

  • 8-10 years' experience in a complex sales environment primarily in direct Sales, Sales Engineering, Presales, Systems Applications, or Product Specialist roles.
  • 3+ years’ management experience; experience managing a team of Solutions Architects or Pre-Sales Engineers is highly desirable.
  • Record of achievement and technical solutions expertise in a customer-facing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of both Broadcast & non-broadcast systems and technology, including Production Control Rooms, master control, routing solutions, as well as strong understanding of industry standard protocols, connectors, and terminations.
  • Practical knowledge of the broadcast and live production industry, including familiarity with key components used in broadcast electronics applications, industry standard protocols (including SMPTE 2110 IP and its implementation), product lines, key accounts, and competitors of Ross Video.
  • Proficient in both Desktop and Server Networking practices.
  • Deep knowledge of pre-sales engineering principles, methods, practices and techniques.
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio / CAD / Vectorworks, with a strong track record of producing complex system design solutions technical drawings with consistency and accuracy.
  • Experienced user of commercial quoting platforms and sales tools, including CRM software (ideally Salesforce.com)
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills; written, in-person and virtually.
  • Well-versed people leader determined to facilitate the growth & development of the technical solutions team on a global scale.
  • Strong and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Calm under pressure with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Natural mentor who demonstrates leadership and/or coaching skills applicable to the onboarding and training of new team members.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills across all mediums.
