Job description

Location: 

  • Remote role working in either UK or Ireland. The role will also support some USA based customers.

About this Role 

As a seasoned Integration Solution Architect, you will lead and execute complex integration projects in pathology workflows - more specifically in  histopathology laboratories, across our UK and EMEA customers. 


In this hands-on role, you will bridge the gap between physical processes and IT workflows, ensuring seamless connectivity across Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), networking, storage, tracking systems and other related technologies. 


Balancing solutions architecture with project management you'll also be making sure each project is delivered on time (removing roadblocks, delegating resources, tracking project milestones and delivery dates etc). 


Responsibilities:

 Integration Strategy & Planning:

  • Assess and define integration requirements for histopathology laboratories, ensuring alignment with clinical and operational objectives.
  • Develop and document architectural solutions that connect physical workflows with Pathology IT systems.
  • Lead feasibility studies and gap analyses to identify integration opportunities and challenges.

Technical Architecture & Implementation:

  • Design and implement integration frameworks that encompass various LIMS, LIS, PACS, and tracking systems.
  • Consult with Security Teams on security requirements and align on approach. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the proper selection and configuration of networking, storage, and data management solutions.
  • Develop system interfaces, APIs, and middleware solutions to facilitate seamless data exchange between disparate systems.

Project Management & Vendor Relationships:

  • Oversee integration projects from conception through to implementation, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Manage vendor relationships, coordinating with external partners and service providers to achieve project objectives.
  • Establish and enforce integration standards, best practices, and quality control measures.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication:

  • Collaborate with lab managers, IT teams, and executives to align technical requirements.
  • Oversee integration engineers, delegate tasks, and ensure smooth project execution.
  • Present strategies and updates to stakeholders for transparency and collaboration.
  • Provide technical mentorship on integration strategies and emerging technologies.

Risk Management & Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies for integration projects.
  • Monitor performance and recommend workflow optimizations.
  • Stay updated on industry trends to drive innovation.


Qualifications:

Technical Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in IT architecture with significant focus on system integration in the Pathology space (histology preferred) - mandatory. 
  • Extensive hands-on experience with multiple Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
  • Proficient in designing and managing integration with PACS, tracking systems, networking, and storage infrastructures.
  • Deep understanding of both physical laboratory processes and IT system workflows.
  • Extensive experience with Integration Engines such as Mirth, Cloverleaf, Rhapsody and Iguana.

Project & Vendor Management:

  • Proven success in leading complex Pathology integration projects in healthcare/laboratory settings. (Mandatory)
  • Expertise in vendor management, contract negotiation, and compliance.
  • Strong project management skills in planning, risk assessment, and stakeholder coordination.

Interpersonal & Communication Skills:

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborative team player who thrives in cross-functional environments.

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications in integration technologies, project management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2), or healthcare IT  - highly desirable.
