About The Role

Houzz is looking for an experienced and strategic Global Controller with deep SaaS expertise to join our high performing Finance function as a key member of the Finance leadership team. Reporting to the CFO, we are looking for someone who is detail-oriented, versatile and hands-on, helping to support Houzz’s software growth and leading a critical area of our business - our Accounting and Billing Operations teams. This position is responsible for ensuring the integrity of worldwide accounting by providing process knowledge, technical expertise, business collaboration, and reporting leadership, with a strong desire to improve processes and controls as well as execute on areas such as corporate accounting, financial reporting and operations, and internal controls. You will lead a team of financial professionals providing leadership and guidance to develop the function to execute to the best of their capabilities.

What You’ll Do

  • Oversee all accounting and billing operations functions, including the global monthly/quarterly/annual accounting close process in accordance with US GAAP and compliance to internal policies, ensuring account balances are fully reconciled, and managing the preparation the financial results in a timely manner
  • Review financial statements and trend analysis to ensure completeness and accuracy of results
  • Manage and implement controls to ensure effective cash management and governance
  • Lead the implementation of internal control procedures (SOX), identifying and improving any inefficiencies and regularly executing process improvements
  • Enhance and develop internal processes and procedures to support ongoing public company readiness efforts
  • Coordinate with external firm(s) to provide support for financial audit, tax filings, 409A valuation, insurance, and other requests as the needs arise
  • Partner closely with FP&A team to closely monitor and analyze operating results against our plans and provide insights for potential improvements
  • Prepare materials and lead the technical accounting discussions with audit committee and board members to ensure compliance with company governance, processes, and address risk
  • Develop and implement efficient processes and that will scale with the company
  • Oversee and influence workflow design with Engineering, Sales, HR and other functional leads on processes, policies, systems and compliance
  • Provide leadership to strengthen the Accounting and Billing Operations teams with a commitment to recruiting, training and mentoring of staff

At a Minimum, We’d Like You to Have

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience; ideally, a public accounting/industry mix including an excellent knowledge of GAAP
  • Has a CPA with demonstrated technical accounting background
  • Broad financial and operational skills developed in a high-growth, commercial stage technology company
  • Proven ability in strengthening accounting processes including hands on experience on establishing goals, negotiation, assigning tasks, coaching, issue identification and problem-solving
  • Experience designing and implementing new policies and procedures
  • Precision and detail oriented nature with strong analytical skills
  • Proven ability to identify and drive process and system improvements
  • Proven track record of performing roles that require you to be trustworthy and maintain the highest levels of confidentiality
  • Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction to accomplish objectives
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all levels internally as well as external partners to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving and results
  • Accomplished leader with a track record of developing talent, inspiring and motivating teammates
  • Demonstrated communication skills and ability to present to senior management
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (v-lookup, pivot tables, etc.)

Ideally, You’ll Also Have

  • Senior financial leadership experience in a public company
  • International business experience is a plus
  • Positive, energetic, optimistic attitude, not afraid to roll up your sleeves
  • Team player, strong interpersonal skills including conscientiousness, diplomacy, flexibility, and dependability

Compensation, Benefits And Perks

This role has an annual starting salary range of $265,000-$310,000 . In addition to salary, you’re eligible for competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Houzz. Also, depending on the role, you could be eligible for an equity award. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors, including, but not limited to, skills, experience, and specific work location.
