Responsible for performing general labor as part of a team that is responsible for track projects including construction, maintenance, inspections, and service.

Track Laborer – Remote (Decatur, IL)
Position Overview
The Track Laborer plays a critical role in maintaining and repairing railway infrastructure. This position involves various manual labor tasks, including handling track components, ensuring proper alignment, and supporting team operations to maintain track safety and functionality.
Starting Hourly Wage: $22.50/hr. based on experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Drive spikes and adjust switches as needed.
  • Move and set cross ties and lengths of steel rail.
  • Shovel stone and lubricate switches.
  • Tighten track bolts and ensure track gauge and cross level compliance.
  • Carry equipment such as track jacks (approximately 40 lbs.).
  • Adhere to personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support track maintenance.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED (preferred).
  • Military experience is a plus.
Language Skills
  • Ability to read and understand simple instructions, memos, and correspondence.
  • Capable of writing basic correspondence and presenting information effectively in one-on-one or small group settings.
Mathematical Skills
  • Proficiency in basic arithmetic: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to follow detailed but straightforward written and oral instructions.
  • Capable of addressing and resolving typical challenges in track maintenance.
Physical Demands
To successfully perform the essential duties of this role, the employee must meet the following physical requirements:
  • Regularly talk, hear, and lift/move heavy weights.
  • Frequently stand, walk, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Specific vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this role, the employee:
  • Will regularly work outdoors, often in varying weather conditions.
