Job description

We are Fool’s Theory, a company from Bielsko-Biała in Poland, creators of the game Seven: The Days Long Gone and The Thaumaturge.
We are actively seeking skilled individuals to join our team to work on a project developed in cooperation with CD PROJEKT RED.

 

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Art Director and Lead Lighting Artist to maintain a consistent visual style and ensure high-quality lighting across the project.
  • Establish lighting for levels with a strong understanding of art direction, gameplay, player guidance, and design metrics.
  • Take ownership of level and cinematic lighting, defining and maintaining the lighting vision for assigned areas.
  • Creating dramatic and compelling lighting that supports photorealistic rendering.
  • Using light to establish depth and layering in a scene while at the same time supporting the story and characters.
  • Using light to enhance environmental storytelling.
  • Deconstructing lighting and textures in a physically based renderer to establish appropriate color correct values.
  • Keeping artistic style consistent with the defined visual style for the game.
  • Collaborating and communicating constructively with Designers, Programmers and Technical Artists.
  • Communicate effectively across departments, clearly articulating lighting goals and providing accurate time estimates for tasks.
  • Ensuring that all lighting deliverables are completed fully and in line with the production schedule.
  • Solve creative challenges by prototyping and iterating on lighting solutions to enhance the visual and gameplay experience.
  • Stay up to date with industry advancements in lighting technology and pipelines.
  • Mentor and support other artists, providing guidance and fostering a collaborative work environment.
Requirements
  • Proven experience as a Senior Lighting Artist or in a similar role within the gaming industry.
  • Strong proficiency in game engines and real-time lighting techniques.
  • Excellent knowledge of lighting tools and pipelines.
  • Excellent knowledge of direct and indirect light, luminance, color theory, and composition.
  • Excellent understanding of shape, composition, and layout to create visually compelling scenes.
  • Solid grasp of gameplay and level design principles to ensure effective lighting integration.
  • Self-driven to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner while maintaining a high level of quality,
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment, sharing ideas and learning from peers.
  • Experience working across multiple departments, with strong communication and presentation skills to convey ideas clearly.
  • Ability to work independently with strong organizational skills and the capability to document processes effectively.
  • Fluent English.
