Cause Capacity is seeking an experienced HR professional to support our nonprofit and small business clients’ people operations needs. This role is ideal for someone who is looking for a remote, part-time HR position in the nonprofit, mission-driven space.
Working as an independent contractor, the Human Resources Business Partner will operate as part of the Cause Capacity team to deliver seamless, high-quality human resources support to our clients. The Human Resources Business Partner will collaborate with clients and the Cause Capacity team on a wide range of human resources efforts on behalf of our clients and their employees. Key responsibilities include:
Perform research to inform the development and revision of HR policies and procedures.
Develop, write, and update HR policies, employee handbooks, and standard operating procedures.
Provide guidance on plans for continuous employee development.
Develop and administer performance improvement plans.
Develop and deliver virtual employee training programs.
Manage annual sexual harassment training for clients.
Administration of the HRIS and payroll systems including troubleshooting issues as needed.
Manage payroll for clients including processing payroll, conducting payroll audits, pulling reports, and investigating and resolving employee issues.
Initiate and process employee pay changes.
Work with clients on benefits offerings and annual open enrollment.
Develop and refine processes for onboarding employees and advise clients on their roles and best practices.
Initiate pre-onboarding actions for candidates as well as oversight of the onboarding process for various clients including but not limited to: Background checks, offer letters, new hire correspondence, processing actions into various payroll and HRIS systems, and auditing and verifying completion of the onboarding process.
Coordinate the administration, development and scheduling of new employee onboarding programs.
Develop and refine processes for offboarding employees.
Coordinate and carry out employee offboarding process.
Determine final payroll needs and process in accordance with applicable state payroll laws.
Document reasons for offboarding and termination.
Full cycle recruiting to include conducting intake calls, posting jobs to paid job sites, updating data in the applicant tracking program, scheduling and conducting phone interviews, writing interview questions, communicating with hiring managers and candidates, and checking references.
Draft job descriptions and benchmark salaries.
Conduct prompt, thorough and neutral workplace investigations regarding sexual harassment, age discrimination, or other Title VI protected areas covered in federal law or any applicable state law.
Support project management needs of the team.
Support the team in other related work, special projects, and perform other duties as assigned.
At least 10-15 years experience as an HR Manager, HR Generalist or HR Business Partner.
Strong employment law/compliance background.
Current or recent experience applying California employment laws.
Current HR Certification a plus.
Bachelor’s or advanced degree preferred.
Experience with payroll processing.
Proficient in the entire MS Office suite and G-Suite.
Proficiency with project management software, HRIS, and applicant tracking tools.
In-depth knowledge of HR best practices and employment law and regulations, including knowledge of current California employment laws.
Ability to organize and prioritize workload, especially in a remote work environment.
Strong client and customer service aptitude.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

$45-65 per hour, commensurate with experience
