The Translator will provide translation services remotely to agencies and departments for individuals with a language barrier. Translation will consist of but not limited to Education, legal, Medical, Environmental, State & Local Government and Social Services, etc. This position performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Cayuse.

This position is in response to a Request for Proposal (RFP), and selected candidates will be asked to provide immediate translation support based on the RFP. Please note that any follow-on work will be contingent on the contract award.

Job Responsibilities:

• Accurately interpreting spoken work situations like lectures, conversations, and meetings. 
• Utilizing technology to transcribe spoken English in some settings. 
• Reading the original document and translating it
• Editing translated versions.
• Being sensitive to the culture of the original languages and the target languages during the translation process
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Skills and Qualifications:

• High School Degree or  BA Degree or equivalent in years of experience
• 5+ years of experience
• Experience in Language Liaison, Education, Medical, Environmental, or Military Interpretation
• Must be comfortable interpreting for these organizations: National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI), Department of Social services (DSHS), Certified Health Interpretation (CHI), State &Local Government, Legal, economic and committees.
• Assigned interpreters are certified or qualified by any of the following bodies: Translation certifications, Degrees
• Assigned translators have experience Translating for City & Counsel Government, State & Local Government, Agencies or other jurisdictions in San Francisco.
• Experience in specialized vocabularies (i.e., legal, State & Local Gov, cultural, or other specialized vocabulary used in Gov agencies)
• May request written translations for a range of content that include, but are not limited to:
• Bay Area Government
• Web alerts about closures, inclement weather and other safety information.
• Surveys, outreach materials and project information to support online and in-person community engagement in planning and policy decisions about land use, housing, transportation, garbage and recycling, and parks and nature.
• Subtitles, audio descriptions and transcripts.
• Content from partners at other jurisdictions and community-based organizations.
• Must be fluent in one or more of the following languages: Tagalog
• Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment

Minimum Skills:

• The ability to facilitate communication with discretion and impartiality. 
• Proficiency in oral and written communication 
• A wide breadth of knowledge in a variety of topics 
• Strong social awareness for interpretation with empathy and attentiveness 
• The ability to track and remember information and concepts while simultaneously interpreting them. 
• Physical stamina and dexterity for extended interpretation sessions
• Must possess problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft and Adobe toolsets, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Acrobat, etc.
• Highly motivated with the ability to handle and manage multiple tasks at any one time.
• Ability to forge new relationships, individual and teaming in nature.
• Must be a Self-starter, that can work independently and as part of a team.

Reports to: Deputy Program Manager

Working Conditions:

• Professional office environment.
• On-call as needed
• Translator will be notified within 24 to 48 hours of potential jobs that come in and language is needed.
• Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties while standing for extended periods of time.
• Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed to meet the demands of this position.
• Must be able to establish a productive and professional workspace.
• Must be able to sit for long periods of time looking at computer screen.
• May be asked to work a flexible schedule which may include holidays.
• May be asked to travel for business or professional development purposes.
• May be asked to work hours outside of normal business hours.
