Job description

The Functional Solution Architect, Retail at Columbus designs and implements retail solutions using Microsoft Dynamics 365 and other Microsoft technologies. The RFSA will work with customers to ensure that solutions meet business needs by providing a unique combination of functional and product expertise and delivery implementation experience in retail systems.

In this opportunity you will provide in-depth knowledge of the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Commerce (Retail) application. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in D365 Commerce, POS, store operations, inventory management, omnichannel retailing, and related integrations. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual, who can work in dynamic conditions and within deadlines.

Note: This is a remote opportunity and can be located from anywhere in the United States. #LI-Remote.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead discovery workshops and engage with stakeholders to gather, document, and analyze business requirements for retail operations, POS, eCommerce, pricing, promotions, and supply chain.
  • Design end-to-end retail solutions leveraging D365 Commerce, including integrations with third-party applications and payment solutions.
  • Configure and implement D365 Commerce modules, including POS, HQ, Call Center, and eCommerce.
  • Work closely with technical teams to define customizations, extensions, and integrations (e.g., with ERP, CRM, payment gateways, and fulfillment systems).
  • Provide functional leadership in project implementations, ensuring best practices are followed in retail solution design.
  • Train and guide end-users, business analysts, and support teams on D365 Commerce features and functionalities.
  • Participate in solution architecture discussions, ensuring scalability, security, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Assist in pre-sales activities, including solution demonstrations, proposal development, and estimation for new retail projects.
  • Support data migration, testing, and deployment of retail solutions to production environments.
  • Configure POS hardware and visual configurations.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience as a consultant or functional solution architect with MS Dynamics AX 2012 and MS Dynamics 365 FO Retail/Commerce.
  • 5+ years of experience D365 FSC/AX.
  • 3+ full life cycle implementations of Dynamics 365 Retail/Commerce module.
  • Strong ability in evaluating retail processes and recommending improvements.
  • Knowledge of Life Cycle Services, Retail Architecture, B2B and B2C business and implementation.
  • Excellent understanding of end-to-end ecommerce business functions include site management, Order management, Fraud protection, enhanced store collaboration (Buy Online PickUp in Store and Buy in Store Ship to Home) and fulfilment including marketplace.
  • Expertise in POS, store operations, omnichannel retailing, merchandising, and pricing.
  • Strong knowledge of D365 Commerce HQ, Call Center, eCommerce, Inventory, and Supply Chain modules.
  • Experience with payment processing, loyalty programs, promotions, and gift cards in a retail environment.
  • Ability to define integrations with external retail applications, ERP, and third-party platforms.
  • Strong understanding of business processes in the retail industry (e.g., store operations, order fulfillment, supply chain).
  • Proficiency in writing functional design documents, user stories, and test scripts.
  • Ability to lead workshops, train users, and drive change management in a retail transformation project.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to work with C-level executives, business users, and IT teams.
  • A passion for client success and enthusiasm for the products we implement.
  • Ability to travel to provide services to clients; and nationally up to 40% of your time during peak implementation.

Preferred:

  • Microsoft certifications in Dynamics D365 FSC/AX – highly desirable
  • Experience with Power Platform (Power BI, Power Automate) and Retail Analytics is a plus.
  • BA/BS degree is highly desirable
