Job description

Role Overview:

PIC North America, a Genus Company, has an exciting opportunity. We are looking for a highly motivated Genetic Development Director to drive genetic progress through industry-leading application of genomic prediction and the identification and development of novel uses of emerging technologies. The Genetic Development Director will lead and develop a team of high performing technical professionals to meet and exceed their performance and innovation targets.

 

The successful candidate has the ability to work in a culturally diverse, fast-paced environment and can work collaboratively across functional teams. The candidate is a strong communicator and can influence internal and external stakeholders utilizing their superior technical writing and presentation skills.

 

The salary range for this position is $173,000 - $208,000 USD. The salary provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Genus considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

You Will:
  • Lead a group of scientists to develop and implement global strategy to leverage new and existing technologies to enhance swine genetic improvement programs across multiple traits, populations, and markets
  • Lead a group of global researchers to identify, develop, and test new statistical methodology for global genetic evaluations
  • Lead the development of models for predicting trait and economic responses across production segments
  • Develop and maintain relationships with world-leading institutions specializing in genetic improvement
  • Investigate novel multi-omic platforms (e.g. Microbiome, Metabolomics, Proteomics, etc.) and emerging analytical techniques (e.g. AI, Machine Learning, etc.) which lead to greater product differentiation
  • Lead practical research investigations to develop solutions to address global customer concerns
  • Develop customized business solutions to leverage existing product improvement platforms in customer systems
  • Travel approximately 30%, both domestic and international
Requirements:
  • PhD in Animal Breeding, Quantitative Genetics, or related field
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in genetic improvement research or implementation, including national or global genetic evaluations and implementing technologies and techniques used to make genetic improvement.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience with leading a team and mentoring scientists
