How You'll Help:
We are seeking a Director to oversee and direct data analysis efforts for our clients. This role is vital to driving data-driven decision-making, providing actionable insights, and contributing to the overall success and growth of HelioCampus. The Director of Data Analysis will lead a team of data analysts, data scientists, and other related professionals, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure data-driven strategies are implemented effectively. We are seeking a Director who is also a player-coach and will work alongside the analyst team with multiple client partners to understand their analytical needs, evaluate key performance metrics, and analyze trends. The ideal candidate has experience in enrollment management, student success, and/or financial aid analysis within Higher Education and possesses superior technical ability as well as effective communication, relationship management, and supervisory skills.

What You Will Do:

Leadership and Team Management

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to a team of data analysts, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence. This will be accomplished in partnership with another Director on the Analyst team.
  • Assume responsibility for hiring and training new data analysts.
  • Deploy analyst resources across clients to ensure timely delivery of client requests while also maintaining workload distribution.
  • Represent the Analyst Team in cross-functional team meetings and Client Success divisional meetings.
  • Serve as liaison for other divisions requesting analyst support on projects.
  • Supervise members of the analyst team, providing regular guidance and conducting performance evaluations.

Data Analysis

  • Develop subject matter expertise in the HelioCampus data platform and guide client partners in the use of the platform to answer strategic institutional questions.
  • Contribute to and deliver standardized HelioCampus-developed analysis subject area playbooks.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and visualizations to effectively communicate insights and recommendations to university stakeholders.
  • Conduct comprehensive analysis of higher education data to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement. This could include analysis of data from all three of the HelioCampus platforms – Data Analytics, Benchmarking and Assessment and Credentialing
  • Perform ad hoc analysis to discover actionable information in support of strategic decision making.
  • Serve as the main point of contact between HelioCampus and the client partner, working closely with senior leaders to maximize use of the platform and deliver ongoing training and support to client stakeholders.
  • Manage timelines and scope for client and internal projects.
  • Leverage enterprise business intelligence tools, SQL queries and other tools to develop complex dashboards and reports.
  • Deliver ongoing training and support to client stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the HelioCampus product roadmap for analytical tools and solutions.
  • Translate and interpret business and data requirements between the client and the HelioCampus technical/data teams.
  • Maintain accuracy and quality of data extracts.

You Will Be a Good Fit For This Role If You Have:

  • Proven experience (typically 7+ years) performing analytic functions in higher education or working as a consultant in higher education, with a substantial portion of it in a leadership or managerial capacity.
  • Leadership skills, including the ability to motivate and inspire a team, foster a collaborative environment, and manage conflicts effectively.
  • Deep understanding of one or more key areas of higher education (e.g., student financials, financial aid, admissions, advancement, student affairs, enrollment management).
  • Significant experience delivering compelling presentations and findings to senior level executives, engaging them in discussions regarding their specific use cases, and making recommendations on additional analysis opportunities that may support client strategic goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to to build relationships and work effectively with diverse teams.
  • Experience working with data from one or more Student Information Systems (e.g. Banner, PeopleSoft, Colleague, Workday).
  • Experience developing technical requirements for reporting and analytic purposes and working closely with both business users and technical development teams.
  • Significant experience working in Tableau to manipulate, analyze and present data and to develop dashboards and reports.
  • Strong understanding of data warehouse concepts, relational databases, and experience working with large data sets.
  • Ability to work effectively and independently on multiple priorities with strict deliverable dates.
  • Experience working closely with both business users and technical development teams.
  • Experience working with data from one or more other higher education HR, CRM, Financial, and/or Learning Management systems.

Nice To Have’s Include: 

  • Experience with higher education financials (General Ledger, etc.) and/or cost analytics.
  • Experience with PowerBI
  • Expertise with budgeting, resource allocation, and financial decision-making processes in higher education.
  • Project Management experience
  • Experience with SQL and in one or more analytic/programming software packages such as R, SAS, Python, or comparable.

Location:
HelioCampus has two locations, Bethesda, MD and Chapel Hill, NC. This specific role is primarily remote, with occasional travel to an office or client site.
