Tax Technology Manager

The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As the Tax Technology Manager, you will work closely with the Indirect Tax, Direct Tax, Strategy, Tax Planning and Transfer Pricing leaders including 3M IT organization to support tax related systems, processes and applications. You will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Serve as one of the global Tax Technology contact for tax related systems, processes and applications to identify tax requirements and enable tax automation solutioning with a focus on the US.
- Possess a strong ability and desire to network across functions within 3M.
- Be a team player with the ability to operate successfully in a matrix environment, with strong influencing and communication skills.
- Collaborate with indirect tax determination and reporting teams, engage in complex product flow planning with an ability to model scenarios and identify systems change impact and perform risk assessments.
- Partner and support the management of the US customer sales tax exemption certificates.
- Use knowledge to improve and support OneSource Tax Determination and Tax Reporting.
- Use in-depth knowledge of processing sales/purchases transactions in SAP including customer/vendor/material configurations, finance costs objects/general ledger accounts, Vendor Invoice
- Management (VIM), Customer Incentive Planning (Vistex) and indirect tax related tables.
- Independently manage projects involving stakeholders, propose solutions for tax automation, identify and manage risks associated with tax change requests, and support IT development by providing clear tax requirements.
- Responsibilities include defining the scope of testing, assist defect resolution, communicating tax-related IT changes to stakeholders, and support the stabilization of new system functionalities/solutions post-deployment, all under the direction of the Tax Technology Senior Manager.
- Provide guidance to other Tax Technology team members and act as Level 3 Tax production support to troubleshoot and resolve SAP/OneSource Tax Determination tickets.
- Question existing processes to achieve simplification and automation.
- Assist with projects initiated by the broader 3M Organization and ensure involvement of key stakeholders, as needed.
- Support tax audits, as needed.
- Be agile, managing multiple concurrent projects, setting timelines and meeting deadlines.
- Skilled in analyzing data and verifying facts during project discovery, ensuring the accuracy of requirements for automation.
- Foster close collaboration across 3M, including with Sourcing and Accounts Payable, Customer Sales representative and Dispute Management, Intercompany, etc.
- Align with the vision of integrating AI into daily tasks.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Ten (10) years of relevant indirect tax or OneSource Tax Determination experience that can be from an accounting firm practice, law firm, industry practice, national tax practice or a combination thereof in a private, public, government or military environment.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher with a major in accounting, finance, information technology or Tax (completed and verified prior to start)
- Highly reliable self-starter with excellent verbal/written communication skills, be detail oriented and agile, to deliver high quality results under strict deadlines.
- Strong knowledge and experience in use of tools such as MS-Excel, MS-Powerpoint and MS-Teams to create and share analytics which facilitate decision-making.
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Knowledge of Global Indirect Tax, particularly Value Added Tax, Goods and Services Tax, etc.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with a readiness to adapt to changing business environments.
- Experience using Alteryx and proposing enhancements to OneSource Tax Determination to meet new business or tax requirements.
- Familiarity with Snowflake data mining, agile and JIRA process, and qTest testing approach.
- Exhibited a sense of urgency in driving effective change and deliver results.
