Job description

At VRAI, the CAD Designer is responsible for creating fine jewelry products in Rhino and maintaining the 3D model library.  This will be a contract role, working 30-40 hours per week. This role executes designs that enhance and build on our existing fine jewelry collection and the creation of new custom designs.  Working alongside product development, quality, and production teams, the CAD Designer will ensure the designs have the feasibility of manufacturing, and meet all functional and aesthetic objectives.  

The CAD Designer has a deep understanding of fine jewelry engineering, stone setting, manufacturing, industry trends, and the VRAI brand identity.  The ideal candidate has a proven track record in creating CADS within the fine jewelry industry, driving innovation while efficiently supporting bringing new products to market on time.

Responsibilities
  • Organize and maintain the 3D file library; manage file sharing with internal partners and manufacturers.
  • Translate fine jewelry design concepts into 3D files conforming to manufacturing tolerances with limited supervision within the established project time frame.
  • Participate in weekly product development meetings, preparing status updates on designs, CADs, etc for review and approval.
  • Review Vendor CAD files for technical viability and provide concise technical feedback to the product development team.
  • Support Custom order CAD creations for orders from time to time during high volume periods and analyze custom order projects that could be integrated into the fine jewelry collection.

  • Requirements
  • Four-year BA or BS degree in Design with an emphasis in 3-D Jewelry Design preferred or a minimum of 5 years in jewelry industry CAD work experience.
  • Proven ability to manage 3D projects from concept to production successfully in Rhino CAD design software creating solid, workable polysurface files, with a portfolio showcasing successful fine jewelry launches.  Knowledge of rapid prototyping machines, 3-D Coat, or comparable sculpting software is a plus.
  • Extensive knowledge of fine jewelry construction, gemology, precious metals, and materials, as well as various stone setting techniques, mechanisms (clasps/hinges) engineering, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret design rendering and engineering documents; experience with creating custom designs for customers for custom-made orders is a plus.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, be able to effectively work in a team environment, have impeccable attention to detail, be highly organized with the ability to manage several development projects at one time, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
