Job description

Mercury is revolutionizing finance for startups by building a complete, user-friendly banking* stack. We prioritize creating a secure and seamless experience for entrepreneurs while upholding the highest standards of compliance and safety.

In the Senior Compliance Risk Manager - Governance & Oversight role, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding Mercury, our customers, and the broader financial ecosystem from the risks associated with our products and services. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Compliance Governance & Oversight, you will be responsible for owning and maturing our risk assessment program, Mercury’s risk and control libraries, and regulatory change management processes.

This is a unique opportunity to shape and mature a GRC program within the dynamic fintech landscape. You will have the autonomy to innovate, drive process improvements, leverage data-driven insights, and significantly contribute to Mercury's success in this critical risk area.

*Mercury is a financial technology company, not a bank. Banking services provided by Choice Financial Group, Column N.A., and Evolve Bank & Trust, Members FDIC.

As part of the journey, we would expect you to:

  • Own the compliance risk assessment program, including developing and maturing risk assessment methodology and procedures
  • Manage the risk assessment life cycle, including supporting SMEs in identifying key risks, assessing risks and controls, calculating residual risk, identifying areas for improvement, and working with control owners on any necessary remediation plans
  • Identify and implement quantitative and qualitative techniques to enhance the compliance risk assessment program
  • Analyze complex compliance risk topics and tailor to leadership audiences such as boards of directors, executives, and senior managers
  • Own maintenance of the compliance risk and control libraries
  • Help identify compliance risk issues to input into the issue management program and provide input to the design of policies, programs, procedures, and other controls.
  • Own the compliance requirements library, comprised of applicable regulatory requirements and partner bank requirements
  • Define and own change management process for changes in regulatory or partner requirements
  • Own tooling strategy and execution of your processes

There are lots of paths that could lead you to be successful in a role like this; we think the strongest candidates will have some of this experience:

  • Proven experience in scaling and maturing GRC programs, including risk assessment, regulatory change management, and risk and control library development.
  • Strong program management skills, including expertise in regulatory guidance (e.g., FFIEC, OCC/FDIC) and industry best practices for risk assessment programs.
  • Excellent project management and data analysis skills, with a track record of implementing efficient and effective solutions.
  • Collaborative mindset with a proven record of building trust and credibility through strong interpersonal skills, communications, and actions
  • You independently define and gain consensus on what quality looks like in your craft
  • You independently and proactively find, prioritize, break down, and execute on key projects
  • You fully drive the planning, decisions, and implementation of high-impact goals, as reflected in team, cross-functional, and business priorities.
  • You proactively identify, generate, and implement innovative ideas that drive our products forward.
