About Optimal Workshop

Optimal Workshop is a leading user experience research platform that empowers organisations to create exceptional experiences for their customers across a range of industries and mediums. Our platform offers a suite of tools for conducting various experience research methods including discovery, usability testing, card sorting, and tree testing. We are committed to helping our clients make data-driven decisions and deliver outstanding experiences.

The role

We’re looking for a Senior Software Developer who is excited to contribute to the evolution of our user research platform. As part of our small team, you won’t just be writing code – you’ll be actively involved in shaping the direction of our products and understanding how to create the best possible experience for our customers. You’ll work closely with a cross-functional team to ensure our solutions align with both user needs and the broader goals of the business.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of projects, experiment with new ideas, and make a meaningful impact on a product used by teams around the world. Your work will directly influence the way our customers solve problems and deliver outstanding experiences to their own users.

What you'll do:

  • Build impactful features: Use React and Ruby on Rails to design and develop new features that improve the customer experience research journey
  • Collaborate cross-functionally: Work with our multidisciplinary Product team to develop innovative solutions that meet the real-world needs of our users
  • Innovate for user needs: Actively contribute ideas to enhance existing tools, focusing on how we can improve user experiences and solve customer challenges more effectively
  • Drive projects forward: Take the lead on technical execution, ensuring products are not only built efficiently but are aligned with our users' goals and feedback
  • Mentor and collaborate: Share your expertise, guiding the team in best practices while learning from others, fostering a culture of continuous improvement

What we're looking for:

  • Experience with our stack: You’re proficient with React, Ruby on Rails, and AWS and understand how to use them to build scalable, user-focused products.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset: You’re excited about the chance to take ownership of projects, continuously improve the product, and stay deeply connected to user feedback and business outcomes
  • Passion for customer impact: You take pride in delivering solutions that truly meet the needs of customers, ensuring each feature enhances the user experience
  • Collaborative and proactive: You work well with others to translate ideas into actionable plans, bringing your technical skills and perspective to make smarter product decisions
  • Pragmatic problem-solving: You’re able to see the bigger picture and break it down into actionable steps that drive results, making sure that we solve the right problems in the most efficient way

What’s in it for you:

  • Competitive salary (we offer a salary that reflects your experience and the value you’ll bring to our team)
  • Annual wellbeing allowance and support
  • Generous annual learning and development fund
  • Employee Share Option Plan (ESOP) to help you benefit from the long-term success of the company.
  • Home office set-up support
  • 4 weeks annual leave plus an additional day off on your birthday!
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development
  • Flexible work options (our HQ is based in Wellington, NZ, but this role can be based anywhere in New Zealand or Australia)

If this sounds like a role that excites you, apply today! We’ll be interviewing as applications come in.
