About our Team

Our Health and Medicine Sciences (HMS) group within our global STM Journals division manages an extensive portfolio of high-impact journals. As an Assistant/Associate Publisher Intern, you will be part of a dedicated HMS team of publishers collaborating to achieve the goals of our business and external stakeholders. Our responsibilities include managing and developing journals and society relationships, launching new journals, and acquiring new society partnerships to ensure growth and customer satisfaction.

About the Role

This internship is part of the Rising TIDE program. Elsevier created its Rising TIDE (Tomorrow, Inclusion, Diversity and Equity) internship program to foster inclusion and diversity as well as provide individuals with work experience in the corporate world so that we can develop a pipeline of talent for entry-level individuals for post-graduation opportunities. 

As an Assistant/Associate Publisher Intern, you will support our publishing team’s work on these key result areas, portfolio management and development, relationship management and networking, and business development.

This is a remote or home-based role that can be open to various locations in the eastern and central time zones.

Duration: 10 weeks starting June 3, 2025, through August 8, 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and align portfolio strategy with organizational goals, ensuring a steady flow of high-quality manuscripts and maintaining contractual relationships.

  • Enhance the existing portfolio, including Open Access initiatives, and ensure continuous quality control and improvement in editorial, production, and publishing operations.

  • Achieve portfolio-related objectives such as content growth, market share, citation share, impact factor, editorial speeds, and satisfaction of authors and editors.

  • Manage budgets, contribute to pricing processes, and monitor the financial performance of journals.

  • Build and maintain excellent relationships with key external stakeholders and internal teams to support portfolio needs and development.

  • Identify and map market needs and business opportunities, developing and acquiring new products and services.

Requirements

  • Be a current student pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree preferably, although not necessarily, related to health and medical sciences graduating May 2026 or later.

  • Show a keen interest in science and medicine, with financial and business awareness.

  • Be able to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.

  • Demonstrate creativity and innovation in problem-solving and be comfortable working with data.

  • Be results-oriented by proactively addressing challenges and opportunities, while remaining adaptable in a complex, matrixed international environment.

  • Display excellent networking skills and be able to build strong relationships.

  • Possess solid communication and presentation skills (both verbal and written).

  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Salary Range

$28/hour for undergraduate students
$30/ hour for graduate students

The salary range provided in this posting is the base salary range for NYC:$18,600.00 - $30,900.00
