Job description

This is a paid freelance, remote position.

If you’re an experienced writer with a finger on the pulse of the Anime world, CBR wants you to join its award-winning writing team! CBR is one of the oldest and most respected entertainment websites in the world. It is the internet’s first and final stop for nerd culture, news, commentary, and community.

Our editorial team is looking for writers to create fun, informative, and engaging Anime reviews that our discerning audience demands, with the eye-catching aesthetic they crave.

Please visit www.cbr.com and review your familiarity with our range of topics before applying. In your cover letter, make sure to tell us how your knowledge of the specific vertical you’re applying for will complement CBR’s coverage.

What we are looking for:

  • Do you have experience reviewing new Anime titles and have a Google Knowledge panel?
  • A passion for anime, writing reviews, and a drive to grow within the industry
  • Broad working knowledge of anime, including:
    • Solo Levelling, Dragon Ball, Crunchyroll, Digimon, Isekai, Sanrio, Gundam, Naruto, Studio Ghibli, Bleach, One Piece, etc.
  • Up to date with new Anime movies and TV shows
  • The ability to analyze content and pull directly from the source material to back up claims
  • A sharp eye for grammatical details
  • Excellent command of the English language
  • Ability to write high-quality articles with swift turn-around times
  • Comfortable working in an entirely virtual environment
  • Should possess a general understanding of Anime and strong research skills

Responsibilities:

  • Write articles in CBR's house style (following the requisite training)
    • This will include: fact-checking, formatting, linking, and image sourcing
  • Keep up to date with new Anime shows and movies, watching new episodes or films as soon as they release (or earlier) in order to have review ready for embargo/release
  • Reviews will be assigned based on each writer’s expertise and CBR’s needs
  • Accept and apply any/all feedback received by the editorial team
  • Communicate openly and actively with the editorial team

What CBR has to offer:

  • Fully remote — write from anywhere in North America or the UK!
  • Opportunities to pitch and write your own original ideas
  • Several helpful guides that you can refer to even after training to grow your writing portfolio and skills
  • Incredible opportunities for career growth within a supportive system
  • An amazing community of like-minded people to nerd-out with on a daily basis

NOTE: Only applications containing a resume and cover letter will be considered. It is essential that you demonstrate your breadth of knowledge of Anime content in your cover letter. You will not be considered for the role if this information is not included. Please note that the next step in the hiring process involves a writing evaluation.

We look forward to hearing from you
