About Upstart

Upstart is a leading AI lending marketplace partnering with banks and credit unions to expand access to affordable credit. By leveraging Upstart's AI marketplace, Upstart-powered banks and credit unions can have higher approval rates and lower loss rates across races, ages, and genders, while simultaneously delivering the exceptional digital-first lending experience their customers demand. More than two-thirds of Upstart loans are approved instantly and are fully automated.

Upstart is a digital-first company, which means that most Upstarters live and work anywhere in the United States. However, we also have offices in San Mateo, California; Columbus, Ohio; and Austin, Texas.

Most Upstarters join us because they connect with our mission of enabling access to effortless credit based on true risk. If you are energized by the impact you can make at Upstart, we’d love to hear from you!

The Team

The Upstart Lending Partnerships team aims to partner with banks and credit unions to help them navigate and thrive through one of the most foundational technology transformations in history. Through our AI lending platform, lending partners are able to grow customer households, enhance risk management, and approve more borrowers at lower rates, while eliminating every bit of friction associated with the process.

The Role

As a Senior Solutions Architect you hold an important strategic position within Upstart's Lending Partnerships Services organization, accountable for the development, execution, implementation and support of client-side integration solutions aimed at helping Upstart’s lending partners integrate Upstart with their core banking and lending platforms. You also play an important role as a trusted advisor for lenders, guiding them through the process of successfully integrating their banking systems with an external vendor.

This is an exciting role for a team player who is looking for the opportunity to make an immediate impact as part of a growing team. You will have the opportunity to drive strategic initiatives aimed at expanding Upstart’s integration capabilities and offerings, while also helping to shape and inform product integration enhancements that will improve Upstart’s overall value proposition to lending partners of all sizes.

As a trusted advisor, you will need to quickly interpret and understand each lender’s unique integration challenges and concerns and be able to offer solutions based on Upstart’s product offerings and capabilities. You will also be expected to be able to effectively explain Upstart’s APIs and connectors, among other subject areas, in a manner that is convincing and easily interpretable to a varied external stakeholder audience. In addition to actively meeting with and supporting clients as a trusted advisor, you will also be expected to provide software engineering support in the development of point solutions, where required and appropriate.

Qualified candidates will have experience working within a consumer lending, banking, credit union, fintech, finance or commercial banking technology environment. Experience should include creating and maintaining APIs and associated integration components. Experience developing and maintaining software integrations with core banking systems and platforms is a strong plus.

Position Location - This role is available in the following locations: Remote (United States), San Mateo, Columbus

Time Zone Requirements - This team operates on the East Coast time zone.

Travel Requirements - This team has regular on-site collaboration sessions. These occur 2 days per Quarter at the San Mateo or Columbus office. If you need to travel to make these meetups, Upstart will cover all travel related expenses.

How you’ll make an impact:

  • Represent Upstart as you guide key customer stakeholders through their external vendor systems integration considerations and decisions pre- and post- program launch
  • Help address lending partner Upstart product integration questions and requests for information while offering subject matter expertise and best practices
  • Guide lending partners through the technical details of integrating Upstart data to major core banking platforms and ancillary systems
  • Team with Upstart’s third-party technology partners to develop and deliver technical integration solutions while providing guidance and subject matter expertise
  • Provide software engineering support to develop and implement API-based integration solutions
  • Form and cultivate cross-functional relationships with Sales, Implementation, Product, Engineering, among others, to remain up-to-date and informed on Upstart’s latest product offerings and lender demands
  • Take a hands-on approach to learning the Upstart platform and related APIs, including corresponding use cases, to identify future API capability improvements and to inform future-state product development
  • Define best practices and author integration strategies, technical documentation, and support procedures to be utilized by the integration team
  • Draw on theoretical knowledge of cloud architecture patterns and SaaS to develop expert solutions to business problems

What we’re looking for:

  • A minimum of 4-5 years playing a key role in developing, supporting, and maintaining software integration and API solutions in the financial services space; strong knowledge of core banking and credit union platforms and systems preferred (for example, Fiserv, FIS, Jack Henry, Corelation, etc.)
  • Experience teaming and coordinating cross-functionally with engineering and product teams strongly preferred
  • A demonstrated ability to successfully partner with customers, external business partners, and cross-functional colleagues
  • Experience driving complex projects to successful completion with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively in a manner tailored for the audience (from the C-suite to analysts and software engineers)
  • A track record of developing, maintaining, and optimizing APIs and software integration solutions
  • Self-starter who is responsible, motivated, detailed oriented, able to work well in a collaborative environment, and is comfortable with tight deadlines
  • A responsive, customer-service posture with superior organization skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and act on a large volume of requests for information
  • The ideal candidate will pay strong attention to detail as a habit and they will hold the quality of their work as paramount in all that they do
