Job description

Apollo’s GraphOS platform helps API platform developers around the world build and operate their data access layers, at scale. It is used in production by some of today's largest and most innovative companies including Netflix, Expedia, Peloton, DoorDash, The New York Times, and many more. GraphOS fundamentally democratizes data and accelerates business transformation. Our Runtime organization owns the critical tier of GraphOS - Core Router and Apollo Federation - the underlying engine powering GraphOS, making it a highly performant, secure, governed, and reliable self-service GraphQL platform.

As an Engineering Manager in the Runtime organization, you will lead a newly formed team dedicated to ensuring Apollo’s GraphOS platform is prepared to meet the evolving challenges of scale, performance, and reliability.

What You'll Do
  • Lead a growing team of engineers, ensuring high-quality deliverables while fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
  • Establish clear goals and drive team-level execution by prioritizing and allocating resources to ensure timely delivery of high-quality, scalable solutions.
  • Refine and drive the team’s charter, ensuring alignment with the organization’s long-term vision and priorities.
  • Foster a high-performing engineering culture, encouraging innovation, autonomy, and professional growth.
  • Collaborate closely with product and engineering leadership to shape the technical direction, refine roadmaps, and evolve the team’s structure as it grows.
  • Partner with other engineering leaders and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver impactful projects that strengthen the performance, reliability, and scalability of GraphOS.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to support hiring efforts and attract top engineering talent.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation as necessary.

  • Who You Are
  • You thrive in navigating complexity and ambiguity, making informed decisions while prioritizing effectively to drive team success.
  • You have a proven track record of leading teams through change, adapting strategies, and refining focus to align with evolving business needs.
  • You are passionate about empowering others and cultivating a supportive environment where team members can thrive.
  • You bring relevant experience in developer tooling, infrastructure, or similar domains and are excited to contribute to building the infrastructure of the future.
  • You have a growth mindset, continuously seeking to learn and develop your leadership skills alongside your team.
  • You embody leadership principles such as creating clarity, unlocking performance, and delivering results in a collaborative environment.
  • You are familiar with all aspects of software development, from architecture to deployment and maintenance, and understand the importance of production-readiness.
  • You are a thoughtful leader with experience in hiring, coaching, and nurturing engineering talent, supporting their diverse personal and professional growth as the team expands.
  • Whether you binge-watch a series on Netflix, plan faraway vacations from your phone, or read international news online, you’ve likely used Apollo’s technology this week. Apollo supports some of the largest GraphQL platforms in the world.
We’re not looking to rest on our laurels though — we’re aiming to change how software is built. Apollo wants to empower every software team to build an amazing user experience across any number of clients, without dealing with a barrage of API endpoints.
Equal to all of that, Apollo is intent on becoming the company where you can see your career grow through challenging work, collaborating with incredible teammates, and accomplishing the unattainable.

At Apollo, we strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation whilst ensuring consistency within the team in each country. We make hiring decisions based on your skills, experience, and our overall assessment of what we learned during the hiring process.

In addition to the U.S. base salary range, we also provide equity and benefits. Apollo offers all U.S. employees a choice of 3 Anthem Blue Cross medical plans and California residents can also choose from an additional 2 Kaiser medical plans. Dental and Vision benefits are provided by Sun Life Financial.
