Wood is recruiting for a Distribution Engineer to join its Projects business, focusing on Transmission & Distribution projects. This opportunity is remote near any of the following Florida locations: Daytona Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Melbourne, Miami, Naples, Orlando, Tampa, or West Palm Beach.
This position is responsible for engineering distribution electrical projects through their entire lifecycle, including conceptual feasibility, detailed design, construction, and service. The Distribution Engineer will lead and support overhead and underground distribution engineering projects, define scopes of work, perform engineering calculations, and develop detailed design drawings.

Responsibilities
- Engineer distribution electrical projects from feasibility through construction
- Lead or support overhead and underground distribution engineering projects, defining scopes, completing cost estimates, and performing engineering calculations
- Develop technical specifications, tender documents, technical reports, and project calculations
- Provide construction support and project coordination as required
- Respond to information requests during construction and prepare record drawings
- Lead teams of engineers and designers as needed to successfully deliver a portfolio of projects
- Maintain and enhance relationships with internal disciplines and external stakeholders
- Travel and visit project sites during design and construction (up to 20% as required)

Expected
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited university
- 5+ years of experience in overhead and underground electric distribution network design
- Knowledge of NESC/IEEE Standards and Codes and major utility engineering standards
- Proficiency in electrical design including selection and installation of conductors, insulators, switchgear, circuit breakers, fuses, and other distribution equipment
- Understanding of smart infrastructure equipment, including automatic feeder switches, remote sensing switching, and capacitor banks
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to take initiative in resolving issues and adapting procedures for unique situations
- Strong sense of responsibility and professionalism in high-profile projects
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Desirable
- Knowledge of structural, civil, and geotechnical aspects of distribution engineering
- Familiarity with overhead systems design
- Knowledge of Photovoltaics and Electric Vehicles
- Experience with distributed energy resources (DERs) and interconnection studies
- Experience in power system analysis (voltage drop, equipment loading, steady-state voltage rise, etc.) using CYME, ETAP, EasyPower, SKM
- Experience with substation and transmission projects
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and GIS applications (Smallworld, GE, Bentley, Electric Office)
- Experience with structural analysis software (SpidaCalc, Pole Foreman, PLS-CADD)
- Experience mentoring junior staff
- Experience reviewing work packages and providing detailed feedback
- Experience working in both Canada and the U.S. for local utility companies
- Background in a utility or consulting environment, managing multiple projects with competing priorities
