Network Monitoring Solutions Architect

Responsibilities

The Network Monitoring Solutions Architect is responsible for revamping and enhancing an organization's network monitoring solutions, primarily using SolarWinds and integrating it with ServiceNow ITOM and CMDB modules. Here are the key aspects of the role:

• Network Monitoring Solution Revamp:
• Lead the redesign and enhancement of the organization’s monitoring solution based on SolarWinds.
• Architect a solution that integrates SolarWinds with ServiceNow ITOM and CMDB modules, ensuring seamless interoperability.
• Automation and Discovery:
• Implement automated network device discovery, including hierarchical mapping and dependency identification.
• Design workflows to auto-configure event correlation and integrate findings with the ServiceNow CMDB.
• Ensure that discovered network devices and relationships are accurately represented in ServiceNow CMDB and mapped to defined services.
• Service Mapping:
• Work with stakeholders to define network services and ensure proper alignment between network monitoring, CMDB, and ServiceNow ITOM services.
• Develop and maintain dynamic service maps to represent dependencies and event impacts accurately.
• API Integration and Customization:
• Leverage ServiceNow APIs to enable advanced automation, data exchange, and functionality between SolarWinds, ServiceNow, and other IT systems.
• Create custom integrations or scripts where necessary to fulfill organizational needs.
• Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:
• Collaborate with IT operations, infrastructure teams, and ServiceNow administrators to align the network monitoring solution with business objectives.
• Provide training and documentation to support operational teams in managing and using the updated solution.
• Performance Optimization and Maintenance:
• Monitor the performance of the network monitoring solution and integrations, identifying and addressing any issues.
• Keep the solution up to date with the latest capabilities of SolarWinds and ServiceNow.
  

Qualifications/Experience

• Technical Expertise:
• In-depth knowledge of SolarWinds, including advanced configuration and customization capabilities.
• Proficiency with ServiceNow ITOM and CMDB modules, including discovery, service mapping, and event management.
• Integration and API Skills:
• Experience with ServiceNow REST and SOAP APIs for integration and automation.
• Ability to develop scripts and workflows for data integration and operational efficiencies.
• Networking Knowledge:
• Strong understanding of network devices, protocols, and architectures (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, VLANs, etc.).
• Familiarity with SNMP, WMI, and other network monitoring standards.
• Automation and Scripting:
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, or Ansible.
• Experience with automation tools and frameworks relevant to ITOM and network monitoring.
• Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
• Ability to troubleshoot complex system integrations and resolve technical challenges.
• Strong analytical skills to design and implement effective event correlation and service mapping solutions.
• Communication and Collaboration:
• Excellent communication skills to interact with stakeholders, gather requirements, and provide updates.
• Ability to create clear documentation and deliver training to technical teams.
• Project Management:
• Experience in leading projects or initiatives related to network monitoring or ITOM integrations.
• Ability to manage timelines and deliverables effectively.
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications in SolarWinds and/or ServiceNow ITOM/CMDB modules.
• Experience with other IT monitoring tools and their integration with ServiceNow.
• Familiarity with ITIL processes and frameworks.
